Plenty of Sewing

Good morning, my friends, and happy day! The sun is shining, and we're expecting beautiful weather for the week. We could see the mountain this morning for the first time in weeks.

Just now, I made this little snip of the forecast for our area:

Just look at that Friday temperature! It won't be that warm at our elevation. Nevertheless, that might be a record-setting high temperature for the day. While we ate our breakfast this morning, we talked about all the things we can do in the yard today. For sure, I'll move the cherry tomato out to the whiskey barrel. I've had it ten days, and I'm sure it's doubled in height. It's even developing a flower already. Time to put it outside where the bees can have their way with it. Also, I can move the rest of the tomatoes to the greenhouse, and I can get my lettuce seeds started in there. Gardening tasks and ideas abound!

Okay, but let's just not get ahead of ourselves. We need to discuss yesterday's sewing. I stitched enough of the "Spring has Sprung" piece to want to move my hoop. It's a little more than halfway finished.

When I made my way into the sewing room, I found Smitty holding my project hostage. His ransom note requested a serving of catnip before he would release the quilt blocks.

After negotiating their release, I went to work on the top-stitching. (For my reference only...) I used this Madeira Rayon Color #1242 to stitch the bird's body.

I'll use it again to finish top-stitching the bird's tail when everything is all sewn together. As for the rest of the block, it looked like this when it was finished.

And then I finished this one:

Then, I laid all ten blocks out together. The blocks are half finished now.

With those finished, Smitty deigned to help me with the next Tiny House.

It was farther along than I expeced when I needed to stop for the day. This is what I have so far. There are just two sections left before I can finish it off.

It should be easy enough to finish that today, even with the gardening projects I have in store for myself. If I have enough time, I'll get started on the donation quilt for Quilts for kids. These are the fabrics I'll be working with. I'm hoping I have enough of the crayon fabric at the bottom left to use for the focus fabric. If not, I have plenty of the one on the right to use for both the quilt top and the quilt back.

Smitty appurroves of my choices, although he wonders why I'd make a quilt for a kid when I have two purrfectly good cats who like quilts living right here in the house with me.

So, I have a busy day ahead. I'll start with slow-stitching, and then I'll get busy with my gardening. Oh yes, and I almost forgot. Today is National Zucchini Bread Day. Hey...I don't make the rules, but I do follow them. There is still a zucchini bread portion of shredded zucchini in my freezer from our 2021 garden. It seems a perfect time to use it.

Nobody needs a smile so much as the one who has none to give. So get used to smiling heart-warming smiles, and you will spread sunshine in a sometimes dreary world. ~ Lawrence G. Lovasik

Enjoy the warm and sunny weather. Your garden quilt blocks are really cute. Your donation quilt is going to be bright and fun. Fingers crossed you've got enough of the crayon fabric. Enjoy the time in the sun, hope you get lots done in the yard.
