Hello, my friends. Let's just talk about our first quilt shop visit for this trip...the first of many, I'm hoping. As we drove up, the quilt shop was obvious. Next door was an auto body shop and this mural was painted on the side of the building.
Walking toward the front door, this banner was planted on the sidewalk outside.
Here's how it looked approaching the front door.
Walking through the front door, it looked like this.
Right away, I noticed their Halloween fabric on display.
Walking across the front of the store, I noticed this little wall-hanging. There were lots of wall-hangings in this shop, and each one had a kit.
Standing at the corner of the store front, I could see shelves of fabric. It was one of those stores where things are packed a little too close together, making it hard to back up to look at any one thing.
Their Christmas fabric was out too. I guess Christmas fabric is always available, year-round.
They had a nice supply of notions. Here, I picked up a package of needles. My latest project is worked in #8 Perle cotton, and my needle has been woefully inadequate for that thickness of floss.
They also had a nice display of my favorite rulers.
Standing at the back of the store, I could gaze down this whole wall of fabric. I should have stood a little farther to the left for this shot so you could see the fabric. I'll try to do better next time. I can tell you that the fabrics were batiks, almost exclusively.
I selected a few things I liked. As I was paying, I noticed this panel quilt hanging overhead. I like the quilting on this. It's a simple design and covers a lot of ground.
This next one was behind my head. I liked their snowflakes, and I'm going to be starting on a Snowman quilt when we get home.
As I was gazing around, I noticed this basket marked $3.50 per bag for scraps. The bag had to close completely.
So, what did I choose? When the shopkeeper asked if she could help with anything, I explained my Shop Hop quilts. She pointed me in the direction of this custom fabric they had specially made for their store. It came in five colors. Perfect!
I got a fat quarter of that one. Then I picked up a yard and a half of this next batik. I think it will work when I sew together the Heartland Barns quilt blocks.

Also, I liked this one for the same quilt. I got two yards. It could make a good back if I can't use it on the front.
Okay, and so I visited another quilt shop here in Billings. I'll tell you about that one in another post...probably a little later. For now, I need to get ready to head on down the dusty trail. I'm expecting internet access in Miles City, but no guarantees.

You do such a wonderful job showing the quilt shops you visit Barbara. I don't know how you are able to walk away from so many beautiful choices! It's a skill I need to hone for the Lancaster shops. Thank you for sharing.
Yes, I remember you stitching those blocks with the gorgeous Autum leaves. Its always wonderful to find a new to you quilt shop when travelling. I find that usually they dont mind photos being taken, when I ask, especially when you say they are going on your quilt blog, extra exposure for them. Nice fabrics you selected.
As you get into North Dakota, there is a Quilt Dakota shop hop going on through mid September. Most all of the quilt shops in both ND and SD are involved. I’m guessing there will be some specials going on in those ND shops. You made some really great fabric choices at this shop.
Just catching up. I haven't received the Follow It emails from you for several days, so I thought you must not have internet access. Sounds like a lovely trip so far. Sorry to hear Smitty is not feeling well. I feels better soon.
Such pretty fabric choices! I haven't been to a brick and mortar quilt shop in SO long (maybe that's a good thing!) but I can certainly let my fingers do my walking without any problem at all. Except for the glaring error in my latest mailing whereby I ended up with something I would never use. Luckily they're quite willing to exchange it.
I have been mainly following you on instagram but caught up on your blog today. You have been busy. I hope Smitty is getting better.
