We had a few nice days of weather this week. I'm afraid we're in for a wet weekend. All the better to convince Mike to help me finish cleaning out the sewing room closet. I spent some time on it yesterday morning, and I finished going through all my sewing crap. The rest is stuff that requires the muscle of more than one person with a broken shoulder. (My shoulder is actually doing pretty well these days, but it's still not 100%.)
It was a busy day yesterday. Aside from cleaning the closet, I did some housework, and I did my workout. (That makes a whole month I've stuck with it.) By then it was lunch time, and so I didn't make it into the sewing room until mid-afternoon. Of course, my trusty emotional support cat was there to keep me on track.
Sadie was no help at all. She's been spending these first warm days of spring on the catio inside her little house. It seems to be her new favorite place to be.
My challenge quilt is more than half done now. It's possible I could finish building the animal today, but it will probably be tomorrow. Here's your peek.
I'll say the face was the easiest part on this one. The rest of the body hasn't yet emerged. They have a way of popping out eventually, but I'm still not seeing it on this one. Fingers crossed it's going to work. I'm confident the thread work at the end will pull it all together, but it's a bit worrisome as I'm writing this. There's nothing I can do right now except to keep going.
It was a mostly gray day, but the sun popped out by dinner time. I noticed another poppy has opened, making five. There are still lots more coming. I hope the rain doesn't destroy them.
We decided to go out for dinner last night. It appears our favorite Thai place in town might have closed permanently. It was closed and the dining room appeared completely empty...as in, no booths, tables, or anything at all. We're hoping they've only closed for a remodel or something, but it isn't looking good. It would be a shame because the food and service were good. We walked a block down the street to a Korean place we like. As we were walking back to the car, we passed by this flower box. It was my first chance to take a picture with my new phone. Pretty.
So, there's grocery shopping on today's agenda, and I think that's the only thing standing between me and my sewing. I'm hoping to finish creating the animal today. I'd like to move it along to the next step. It occurred to me yesterday that I can always step away from it and start quilting the Garden Sunshine quilt. If I get tired of working on it before it's finished, I might get started on the quilting. It's good to have choices. There's some urgency to finish the challenge quilt, however, because I have fabric scraps strewn from A to Izzard. (That's a Mike-ism, in case you were wondering.) I need to finish it up and put those fabric scraps away. We're going to have to move everything out of the sewing room when the old-for-new carpet exchange begins, and so that is on my mind.
Okay, so onward. There's much to do, and the day is only just getting started.

Your poppies are so brilliant--just lovely!!
I cannot figure out your animal--good luck with getting its body worked out...
I am continuing on with my Many Trips piece even tho' I am not crazy about it--I mean I have all those strips laid out and all...people have told me to "Trust the process"--so we'll see; it is a learning experience at any rate...
I hope your weekend turns out well hugs, Julierose
A to Izzard - haha - good one, Mike! Maybe Sadie is still feeling the need to hide from all the mans. Your new phone takes some nice, crisp photos!
I need to convince someone to help me clean out my sewing room. Someone who can be brutal about getting rid of things not likely to be used. LOL
The poppies made me think of my mother-in-law. She had a big patch of gorgeous poppies that bloomed behind her house every summer about this time. They were so pretty.
We saw our first poppies today, so uplifting. Also it appears those purple poppy seeds you sent have reseeded themselves, we'll see what develops. All progress on gardening and quilting have come to a screeching halt due to covid hitting our little home, so much for vaccines and boosters, sigh.
A to Izzard - that's a good one! Seeing the poppies made me think of my mother who was a lover of the double variety of annual poppies. She would fill her pockets with seeds and then wait until she saw the neighbours leave and then she'd toddle over and strew seeds all over their garden. They knew where they were coming from of course.
