What a welcome lovely weather day it was yesterday. My day was off to a good start with a visit to the Beaverton Farmers Market with Erik and Mae. It's pretty driving up to their house these days. Mae energetically planted bulb flowers in the strip of grass next to the road in front of their house. Everything is blooming now.
I especially liked this double tulip. There were several of these...so pretty.
We didn't buy much at the farmer's market, but breakfast with Erik's fresh squeezed orange juice is always delightful. The only thing I got was a Sun Gold cherry tomato. We're going to make a trip starting in mid-August, and so we aren't planting any other tomatoes this year. Also, we're keeping our vegetable garden small, and only planting things that will ripen before the end of July...so, no corn either.
It was a nice enough day the kitties were all about getting outdoors and doing cat things. They always keep an eye on the squirrels. At this time of year, we often see activity in the form of moving mole hills or gopher holes.
Sadie had her eyes on something.
When she started moving toward it in sneak-em-up mode...
Smitty had to take a closer look.
I don't know what they were looking at. I didn't see it. Sadie rarely lets me take her picture when they're outside, and so I caught her when they came back inside. She's a reluctant photography subject.
Back outside, I was happy to see the new clematis is still hanging on. I wasn't convinced it was still alive after the snow, but it seems fine, and its flower is still green.
Near the front door, the red tulips are opening up.
The oldest clematis flowers are opening now too.
Also, the wisteria buds are beginning to unfurl. I'm hoping this one will gain some size this year. It's very pretty when it blooms above the front door.
I was happy to see how perky the cherry blossoms look. This is the Black Tartarian, and it is covered in blooms.
The Bing is a little more sparse, but its flowers are coming on too. I'm hoping we'll still get some cherries this year.
Another one of the lilies poked its head above ground, only to be gnawed off. I'm thinking slugs did this, and so I spread some "candy" around for them. I think this will recover, but it was still maddening to see it like this.
Another of the peonies has developed some buds. That makes two out of the five. The others are doing fine, but they haven't matured enough for buds yet.
Some of the dark purple tulips are beginning to show their colors.
Across the driveway, this is the last of the snow. Having it slide off our new metal roof brought a new set of problems. There are two roofs (the house and the garage) where it dumps into our breezeway. Good grief there was a lot of snow piled in the breezeway. Mike scooped it up in the bucket of his tractor and moved it to the far side of the driveway. This is what's left of what was once an immense pile.
On the sewing front, I've quilted all but one row of quilt blocks now, and then I'll also need to quilt the top and bottom borders. I'm hoping to finish the quilting today, but I have other things on my agenda too. I'm hoping there will be time enough.
And I finished off another section of the Heartland Barns piece. I've moved my hoop, and when that is filled in, I'll be able to hoop the last of it. I'll be glad to have these finished.
At the end of the day, Smitty was seen lounging in his favorite spot in all the land. He loves this time of year when he can catch the waning rays of sunshine napping on his catio.
Okay, so I'm doing some cooking today, making
frozen breakfast burritos for the guys to take along when they head for Monterey. Tomorrow I'm meeting up with my friend Lenelda. She's up from Texas visiting with her mom who lives in Salem. We're having lunch, and then we might go to a quilt shop if we have time.
On Tuesday, I'll be helping Mike get the RV ready and packing the food I've prepared ahead for them. Mostly, it's leftovers I've been saving, but I did cook up a few things special, and I'm going to bake two kinds of cookies for them. So there's plenty to do over the next couple of days. Oh yes, and let's not forget we're expecting a crew to start work on the mess in our basement this week. And that makes plenty of reasons to try to finish off my quilting today. Time to get busy.

Mae's bulb flowers are so beautiful! Last week I went to the Botanic Gardens and their bulb flowers were not as nice as Mae's planting. I think our climate is challenging for spring flowers, unfortunately. Your quilting projects look great. It's nice to see the kitties enjoying the outdoors!
Your flowers and Mae's bulb flowers are beautiful. We had some much needed rain last week, and this week it is due to be in the 70's to 80's. I need to get out back and mow and weed some more flower beds this week, as the week after that I head to Boston for granddaughter's graduation from nursing school. Have a great week!
Seeing all of your lovely flowers peeking through makes me wish I was more of a gardener. How exciting to see those little shoots peeping through! Kitties are looking pretty chill! Mae's flowers are gorgeous, too!
It's too bad you have to stay home and keep an eye on the repair job. I was hoping you could ride along to Monterey, and visit Back Porch Fabrics in Pacific Grove while they watch the races. But I guess it would be a long ride on an unfriendly bike! Dot
The flowers are gorgeous! It's nice to see a touch of spring since we haven't seen anything bloom around here yet.
Make sure to stop and smell the tulips, so wonderful.
It's amazing that all that snow seems to have done so little damage to the plants. That pink tulip is outstanding!
