Rosy Forecast

For the first time this week, there was no new snow on the ground when we woke up. Hurray! I believe the weather gods may have gotten it out of their systems. On the other hand, it's still very cold with low temperatures below freezing. Also, there is still plenty of snow on the ground, and so there's no way to know how the landscaping has come through this. We lost another limb off one of our big Douglas firs though. The same tree lost a number of limbs in the ice storm of two winters ago, and so it can ill afford to lose more.

It was another good day to stay inside and sew. (That sentence was edited from my original post which said to stay inside and “snow.” Snow on the brain.) I was able to finish off the last of the blocks for the French Roses flannel quilt. I dug through my pile of flannel scraps looking for any I hadn't used yet. I found a few more, but most of them went into the quilt at some point. Here's the first one"

And then I just kept going, cutting and sewing...

About that time, Miss Nosy showed up.

You can see it's super helpful having a cat in your face while you're trying to cut from templates. She was persuaded to imbibe in some catnip.

And then I just kept going. This next block has tigers, moose, and a zebra on it.

There were just two more...

and then, finally...all the blocks were finished.

And here they are! I love all that color. These will have a border made from that same background fabric. 

When it's all sewn together and sandwiched, I plan to tie it. I'm trying to decide whether to tie it with Knit Cro-sheen, or I can also tie it by machine using the eyelet buttonhole stitch on my machine. I did that on another quilt, and it worked out nicely. This is a picture of the quilt I made before I started blogging.

And so that leaves me with an open slot on my WIPs list. When I come back around again, I'm going to start on another flannel quilt. I'm trying to make use of two boxes of flannel scraps. Yesterday, I went through looking for the largest pieces, which included some yardage. I'm going to make this quilt called "Flannel Rectangles." You can find the free pattern right here.

They're calling this a "wall quilt," and it is small as it appears here. The blocks are only 6-1/2 x 8 inches. In the picture (which is cut off on the right side), the blocks are set 5 x 5. I'm going to set them 7 x 7 to get it to a larger size. I'll make it scrappy, but I have enough yardage of a sky blue flannel to use in place of the dark brown. It will be very colorful.

Today I'll get back to work on the last block for the Ties & Tails quilt. We'll have to interrupt our afternoon to take Smitty to the vet. He needs his rabies vaccine. He isn't happy about this and assumed the "head in the sand" sleeping position this morning in order to hide from us.

I'll spend some time on my slow stitching this morning. I finished off the current section yesterday.

Now I've moved my hoop up to a section that is all trees and leaves, and that's where I'll pick it up this morning. Right after breakfast. And it's time for that right now. I'm looking forward to some warmer weather. I hope the weather is treating you well at your end.
