Indulging my Inner Slug

Please allow Smitty to demonstrate how the current residents of the Three Cats Ranch have spent the past two days:

"Flat" has been our watchword. This idleness has been luxurious (or, "slugxurious" if you like), but I think I'm ready to get back to being a productive member of our three-being society now.

During one spur of activity yesterday, as I walked from the living room to the kitchen...on my feet, no less...I noticed the goldfinches have returned in greater numbers now. They've been back at the feeder for a day or two, but only a few. Now, the crowd has arrived. It will probably mean daily filling of the birdfeeders.

Of course, Miss Nosy was there to direct their activities.

If you'll just step over here, I have a box of kittens behind my whiskey barrel. Also...candy!

With so much indolence afoot, there isn't much to tell you today. This morning I made myself some Baked Apple-Blueberry Oatmeal. It's in the toaster oven as I'm writing this. Probably I'll be more productive with actual food in my stomach. While Mike has been gone, I've taken a vacation from cooking anything. I've been eating yogurt and apples and sandwiches, but I don't think I've turned on the stove top or the oven since he left. The baked oatmeal will feed me for breakfast until he gets home, and so this one dish will ensure I don't starve before he returns. Food will probably increase my productivity level too.

As for the rest of the day, I'll definitely get back to my sewing. I've been working on planning our trip from time to time as well. Yesterday I tried laying out all the destinations and sight-seeing days on a calendar and found my trip at least four weeks too long. I already knew that would be the case. When I make the first draft, I go for broke, including anything we might possibly want to see. Then, I have to start cutting things down and eliminating certain destinations to make the trip do-able in the time we have for traveling. I've eliminated a few places already, and I've highlighted things that are must-sees. Also, I've realized that I gave us several days in some of the state parks where an overnight stay is probably enough. It'll all come together, but it is a process...just like sewing. I have to circle sometimes before I get it right.

In other news, we aren't expecting to see a plumber until May 13th. Sheesh. We might see one sooner if there's a cancellation, but for now...May 13th is the date. And a Friday too. That can't be good. On the bright side, it means I won't have a crew running in and out while I'm wanting to have the house to myself. So it's both good news and bad news.

Okay, my toaster oven just beeped at me. Time to have some breakfast, and then I'll be waiting for that burst of energy that gets me moving again.

I like the word 'indolence'. It makes my laziness seem classy. ~ Bernard Williams

I suspected it would be a wait. We have a friend who has a plumbing company in Portland. He is extremely busy in addition to not having enough plumbers to work for him. He just can’t find enough qualified plumbers. Plus most want to work on new builds as they are easier that fixing old fixtures. I hope the fix will only take one day. In theory that is all it should take.

I'm so glad you are just taking time to vegetate and enjoy yourself. I'm quite sure you're likely buzzing around doing all sorts of things today. I'm trying to get motivated to get out of my chair. A nap is being very persuasive.

You really are funny. Thanks for starting my day with a smile. Good to see the beautiful finches have returned. So colorful. Sorry your plumber will take soooooooo long to come. I'll keep my fingers crossed that he completes the job on his first day.

Slugism is just fine - we all need a little of that from time to time.
Your oatmeal sounds good - Resident Chef makes ours in the rice cooker..steel cut oats, dried cranberries, raisins, milk and coconut (if we have it). He makes enough to last us a week or more.
Too bad about the long wait for the plumber - let's hope Mike's repair job holds in the meantime.

Slugging is fine in my book but even that can get boring! We're having the same problems with workmen over here, not enough to go round..... Workmen that is....

You worked your buns off getting the boys ready for their trip, it's now your turn to relax a little. The feeling of an empty house is luxurious.
