Mostly Slow Stitching

It was about lunch time when I returned home yesterday afternoon. There wasn't time for slow-stitching in the morning, and so I started on that right away after lunch. Every day must include slow stitching, and that's just a fact.

I'm nearly all the way across the bottom of this block. By the time I've finished today's stitching, I should be heading back across from right to left. There's still lots to do before it's finished.

After that, I put the borders on the latest New Mexico Kitchen block.

There was just slow-stitching to do after that. Fortunately, I had a lapful of my helper cat, Sadie. Smitty offered his support from across the room. He really was on the hunt for hummingbirds at the feeder outside.

First, I embroidered the "Pinto Beans" label.

And then began the ponderous task of adding the fringe.

It took about an hour to finish it off. Sadie helped me lay out all the blocks so that you can see them.

And here are the nine blocks I have for this quilt so far. There are three more. Happily, there is only one more block with fringe.

Today we'll make at least five more blocks for the French Roses flannel quilt. Sadie likes this quilt.

The flannel is so soft on her cheeks.

I should be able to finish five blocks today. If they aren't too much effort, I might make five more and finish off the quilt blocks for this quilt. If I can do that, I'll be opening up a slot on my WIPs dance card to start another flannel quilt. I have tons of flannel scraps, and so I'm committed to making use of some of them.

There are a couple of small housekeeping chores on today's agenda, but it looks like a mostly sewing day ahead. Spring is nearly here, my friends. And we're expecting some good weather next week. If it comes as expected, I'll be outside cleaning up the yard of its winterkill and pulling up weeds.

A lot of children don't have a developed aesthetic. I did. I made early choices in life, even about cloth; I liked flannel and not polyester. ~ Patti Smith

Sadie is such a good helper, she deserves to rest her chin on the flannel :-)

The New Mexico Kit hen quilt is going to be one of my all-time favorites, since it depicts some of our favorite foods. I think flannel quilts and Sadie go together wonderfully!

Mostly sewing on National Quilting Day - great plan! We took a quick trip this weekend (quilt related) and just got home. Always good to be back home! Sadie looks adorable, all cuddled by those blocks!

Springtime. It’s time to figure out what will go into the garden. We think fewer tomatoes this year. More garden herbs in pots before we site the kitchen garden in the ground. The flannel quilt seems to be a big hit for a quick quilt and a great scrap buster. I have tons of flannel not used for NICU project. If that doesn’t move soon maybe the flannel can be used in a quilt.

Yay! Love the Mexican food quilt. Each block has me thinking of dinner plans.

I think I would have been very tempted to simply buy commercial fringe but then again, I'm lazy!
I love the tablecloth fabric in the burritos block - very fitting for the subject.
