Busy Morning, Afternoon Sewing

As it turns out, everything took less time than expected yesterday. I started with a leisurely breakfast with my friend, Sue. We tried out a new place, and it was good. Sue brought me some flowers from her garden. She always wraps them carefully in damp paper towels and plastic wrap. When I got them home, I stuck them in a bud vase. (Note to self: check their water level this morning.)

They're so pretty and springy! Thanks, Sue. There was time to get to the post office before my haircut. And then my haircut was pretty quick. I checked JoAnn and Michael's for some appropriate ribbon for my quilt, but found nothing. Fabric sashings it is, I guess. And then, finally, there was a grocery store next door to Michael's, and so I got an avocado for last night's dinner, and one of my favorite shrimp spring rolls for my lunch. With all that, I was home around 1:30, which left plenty of time for some sewing. Yay!

Well, don't you know Miss Sadie was Johnny-on-the-spot to help out. She's been a slacker the past few days, leaving all the heavy lifting to Smitty.

Her specialty is accurate cutting and measuring, however, and I wasn't working on anything that required her expurrtise. She decided to take a nap in the kitty bed I've provided to keep her out of my way. It works purrfectly.

What about me? Can I help?

Neither kitty's assistance was really required, and so I asked him to stand by, just in case. I was finishing up the last six inchies, turning them into felt quilt blocks.

Now they are all finished, and I'm kind of excited to get busy sewing them into a quilt top.

Also, I still need to do something with the larger motifs. I'll need to figure out some configuration for these blocks, and then start sewing the fabric sashings to at least a few so I can get a sense of proper measurements. I'm still mulling this over in my head...where to start, that is.

Smitty decided to take a nap on the fabric. If his help isn't needed, napping is always a good choice.

I was busy making and tracing the first blocks for Books and Roses, a new BOM from Jenny of Elefantz. Jenny is making bookmarks from hers, but I'm going to make small quilt blocks from mine. I'm making this another Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilt, and so I started with January's red block. I still had quite a bit of white fabric leftover from the Broken Hearts quilt, and so I'm using that as my background. It's a white with tiny white polka dots.

And then, I moved on to February's aqua...

And March's yellow.

That will be my next stitching project, but it won't take long. These are small blocks.

While I was working on that, Miss Sadie moved to the gas fireplace and waited for someone to switch on the flame. It's just one more reason she's glad to be home.

While we watched the news yesterday evening, I stitched up January's block. It still needs a red border.

I'll probably get at least one more finished today, but then it's going to be another NBS day. I left myself a week's time to get back to my regular housework, and so I'm free to sew and get caught up on those projects that have been awaiting our arrival. Today I'll finish off March's Jericho's Walls blocks. There will be three from these yellow fabrics.

When those are finished, I'll be officially caught up and ready to resume "regular" sewing. That will start with this month's OMG monthly goal of making a quilt top from the inchies. The little Books and Roses blocks won't take long, and so I'm also looking ahead to the next Calendula Patterdrip block. Those generally require some piecing before they're ready to stitch, but I haven't taken a look at the next block yet. I guess we'll both find out how much is involved at the same time.

Okay, so breakfast is next...then I'll get to work on my slow-stitching. And then, I'm going to spend a blissful day in the sewing room. Sounds great, doesn't it?

Sounds as though you've settled back into your at home groove and getting lots accomplished.

Yes, you have settled back into your sewing groove once home. I'm with Sadie - something extra to chase the chill is so needed these days.

How nice that you were able to catch up with Sue over breakfast! Do your kitties leave the flowers alone? Wilbs tries to eat every flower I bring in the house, which is frustrating. Your little RSC flowers are so cute!

Sounds like a productive day in and out of the sewing room. We all need more days like that.
