More Stitching

We had a nice lunch with our friends yesterday afternoon. It's always good to get together and catch up. Mike's sister will be visiting today, and we'll be heading out to the Oceanside Pier with her. We have meets with friends set up for Thursday, Friday, and Monday as well, so we've turned into social butterflies. It was the point of coming here. We're being very careful in our meet-ups, maintaining distance and wearing masks when we can't. Several of our friends have already been vaccinated, and so the risk is somewhat less. We will be eligible for vaccines beginning Monday, and so I'm hoping to get appointments for soon after we get home.

As for the rest of the day, it was mostly spent slow-stitching. I worked some more on my redwork piece.

I decided I'd stitched enough to move my hoop, and now I'm reaching all the way to the bottom of the piece again. Just the southeast corner remains. If I keep at it, I might have this finished before we get home.

The kitties were very helpful this morning.

Their help was needed as I stitched the latest inchy...this one with the dreaded cast-on stitch. I haven't tried anything this fancy since breaking my thumb, but I stitched it like a boss. No tears, and no cussing.

It's the most difficult stitch I've attempted in my embroidery. Now that it's finished, it seems as if the bullion stitches will be no problem at all, but we'll just see. The bullion stitch is still to come. There are three small inchies left to do, and then the one center motif with a little verse in it.

So no sight-seeing, and that means I don't have a lot to tell you. We're just waiting for Mike's sister to call. She's driving down from Fullerton, and she'll stay the night at a local hotel. (Yes, I suppose she could stay on our hide-a-bed, but they are notoriously uncomfortable, and she didn't wait for an invitation.) We're expecting her any minute. We'll start out here, and then head out to see the pier. It's a little cooler today, and so we want those coastal clouds to burn off before we go to the beach.

Nobody fell down or died yesterday, so all is well at this end. I love the Oceanside Pier, and so I know it's going to be a good day.

Old friends become more and more precious to us as the years pass. They can look at us for who we once were and who we are now, appreciating the difficulties we have overcome, the abilities we have acquired, and the ways we have stayed true to ourselves. ~ Wendy Lustbader

Beautiful redwork stitching, Barbara; it's really coming together so well.
Our appointment for the 2nd shot isn't until April 2nd even though our 1st one was Jan 21st--there were no appointments available...hoping it is still viable when we get it...always something, isn't it?
Hugs, julierose

I too love the Oceanside Pier and have many wonderful childhood (and young adult) memories based around the pier and nearby beach. But it has been years since I've been there. You've reminded me of another place I need to go visit and enjoy old memories, as well as make new memories. Good to hear you are getting out visiting family & friends, with many having their covid vaccines. Life after covid is beginning to blossom. We had our #2 jab today. I hope you have a great weekend. I plan on getting some steps in, as well as begin ruler work on a quilt intended as a Wedding gift. I'm loving your stitchery, but this year my goal is to learn cross stitch.

It sounds like a lovely day, and I'm glad you are getting to see some friends. Looking forward to that being more of the norm once again. Your stitching looks great, as does your little inchie. Smitty looks like he's on high alert in that photo. Nothing better than two cats on your lap - good way to start the day!

I did all the hair pulling and cussin for both of us on this block--I would get one right and rest wrong--or none right--can't tell you how many I tore out and restarted--still not really happy with it--but it's in for now--may have to look up a u-tube video to see 'why' mine kept coming out back wards/upside down!!?????
Glad to see you having some outings with friends and family!
luv, di

Your trip to Oceanside sounds like it will be a blast!
Ahh, the dreaded cast-on stitch. I did a class with Gail Doan several
years ago. The jacket trim was all cast-on flowers. Poor woman had to work with me on and off for nearly an hour before I finally got them right! That outfit never got finished, sad to say.

Sounds like a fun outing is planned - it's been so long since we've had any sort of outing here so I guess I will have to live vicariously through you. As for the vaccine - it sounds like Resident Chef might be able to get his in April and mine might happen in June. Might, being the key word!

Now, you listen here, young lady, NO MORE FALLING DOWN! OK, that said, I'm so glad you have been able to get out of Snowville in OR, and off to the sunshine.
