The day started out easily enough. Sadie roasted her tummy furs in the morning sunshine. Can we all paws for a moment and decry the sad, sad life of the RV cat? Shameful, isn't it?
As I mentioned yesterday, I wanted to make another mask for myself. It didn't take long...
Now here's the thing...I only barely had enough fabric to make this mask. I'm using up the last bit of that camper fabric. It's been used in several quilts already. And I wanted to get the directional print oriented so that it was right side up. So I folded the fabric over for cutting with my mask template, and I checked both sides just to be sure I was thinking correctly. Still...the fabric is upside down on one side of the mask. Oh well. I was trying to figure out how that's even possible, but it's a complete mystery. I'm putting this under the category of "quilter's geometry." I was a terrible student of geometry. Mainly though, I had a geometry teacher I despised. I blame you, Mr. Murphy, for me getting this mask wrong. (Shakes fist at the man who is probably dead by now.)
Well, what could I do but a little more slow stitching. More progress has been made on the redwork piece. This one is going very slowly since I'm limiting my stitching time these days.
In a moment of complete grace yesterday, I did the last thing I needed to do, which was to take a tumble from the 2nd bottom step of the RV right onto my broken shoulder. Possibly having a broken shoulder saved me from breaking my arm because I instinctively did NOT put my arm out to protect myself from the fall. I did, however, scrape up my elbow, and my wrist is a little stiff today. Oy. The steps of the RV are a little weird because there are four steps up, and then the fifth step is in through the door. I have to step up to the third step to reach the latch on the door, but then I have to step back one step to actually open the door. It's a little awkward, and Mike was kind enough to install a railing on the stairs. Nevertheless, I did the thing I feared most when I fell yesterday. No harm done except to my pride.
I wouldn't even be telling this story except that it seems to dovetail into the inchy I stitched this morning.
Inhale. Exhale. Yes. I seriously hope that's the last spill I'll take for a while. Having an arm that isn't particularly useful at the moment makes me a clumsy person. I'm just grateful I didn't break any more bones in the process.
Today we're having lunch with some of our dearest friends from high school. We're meeting at an outdoor venue, but we'll still be masked up any time we're close to one another. And no hugging. I brought a jar of the cranberry-apple mustard I made last year to give to them. We're looking forward to a lunch of reminiscing and laughing. It's going to be a good day, and I swear, I will not fall down.

There is no insurmountable solitude. All paths lead to the same goal: to convey to others what we are. And we must pass through solitude and difficulty, isolation and silence in order to reach forth to the enchanted place where we can dance our clumsy dance and sing our sorrowful song - but in this dance or in this song there are fulfilled the most ancient rites of our conscience in the awareness of being human and of believing in a common destiny.~ Pablo Neruda
It was quite sad seeing Sadie so stressed! Perhaps she needs more 'calm'. I'm so sorry about your spill! Glad you are ok. As always, your stitching is just beautiful.
Oh no! So sorry about your spill, Barbara...so glad you are okay!
Have fun catching up with your friends!

Oh nooo--I am so sorry to hear about your fall. Gosh, you really don't need that. I think we all get so used to moving at a certain speed, and find it's hard to slow down and watch more carefully--I know I do!! The other night I walked right into the broom closet door which was left open!! I was looking back (duh) over my shoulder at the time...not very smart!!
Anyway, I see your stitcheries are coming along really well...this afternoon I am going to try to prep a shamrock for fusible machine appliqueing...trying to learn how to better accomplish machine work as my hands are retiring!! ;000
Hugs and take care Julierose (aka "Momma says.." ) hahaha
Grateful indeed. When I fell on my surgically repaired shoulder and saved my arm from breaking by not using it to stop the fall, I broke my foot, so I am glad you didn't do a total copycat. I have no figured out the mask math either. I can't tell you how many of mine ended up with half upside down. I treat them like loose socks; the offending side goes into a box for a bit to see if I will accidentally create a pair.
Good to hear you're not too much the worse for wear after that mishap. I understand totally the issue with the rv steps and door. Same thing with our door to the basement which we now have to close to keep Sammy from the dark dank dirt floors in the older part. Of course coming back upstairs we have our arms full, have to step up to reach the knob then back down to let door swing open. Not making any more masks, when the newest ones from amazon wear out I'm going to quit wearing them.
With the folds and seam of the mask, I don't think it that noticeable - and - if some notices it while you are out and about; they are too close. Falling down steps - shudder - my nightmare (since falling down steps). Glad it wasn't serious. Take Sadie's advice - stop and warm up in the sunshine.
Glad you didn't make a bad situation even worse with your spill. I think they need a better design for that doorway.
Oh dear, that fall could have had serious consequences so I'm pleased you got off reasonably lightly. It was still a shock, I'm sure, to find yourself on the ground. Hope your catch up with old friends went well, always nice to chat about old times.
My Scampy Babe lays like that on the ironing board, No sun involved, no heat involved, just the towel on the ironing board. (which is there so her black fur does not cover the ironing board) :-)
That had to be a scary tumble. Glad you didn't do any additional damage. I hope you aren't too terrible sore today. Hope you had a great time with your friends.
So glad you are okay after your tumble, Barbara. Goodness! On a happy note, you made me laugh out loud about blaming your geometry teacher for your mask mishap. I had an algebra teacher who would fall asleep at her desk right in the middle of teaching a lesson. Smart class that we were, we sat there and did not wake her up until the bell rang for dismissal. 🙂 Have a ton of fun at your friends meet up today! The temp in Ohio today is supposed to reach a high of 52 degrees - yes! Maybe spring is right around the corner after all.
I'm so glad you are okay after your tumble. Enjoy your time with friends - the best medicine!
Whew! Close one there with the steps. I’ve been feeling like Sadie, needing warmth and staying still. Good for you in staying in touch with your friends. It isn’t always easy for frequent movers to reach back in time and reconnect. It definitely helps when hubby and you have the couple in common.
What background fabric are you using for your inchys? I have been searching for something like this. Say hi from me to the warm tummied Sadie. Your stories make RVing very attractive.
In reflecting on your daily quote, I think after a year of solitude and difficulty, isolation and silence, we've all earned a chance to dance and sing. Glad your stumble didn't result in further injury. Another reminder that we all need to be more mindful as we move around. And I think it's fine to take your time on the stitchery. You wouldn't want to run out of projects before you get home.

Oh my goodness!!! Please be careful. You are going to need a keeper if you keep this up! I'm hugely relieved that you didn't break anything more (other than your pride, no doubt). Maybe you should think of joining Sadie do some more sunning of your fur too?!!!
Sorry to hear that you fell but I am glad you didn't break any bones. Hope the rest of your day was better and you enjoyed your time with friends.
Oh I held my breath about that tumble, thank goodness all is well. I forgot to mention
about the tiger butter from yesterday. I do remember that story.
