A Day of Rest

We've been going full bore since the kids arrived from Portland. Yesterday was a day to slow down and pace ourselves a little better. We didn't get together until lunch time. After lunch, we visited the Corvette driving school Mike attended a couple of years ago and toured the facility. Then we had a couple of hours apart in the afternoon to rest up before dinner. I think it's always a good idea to rest up before one eats a big dinner, don't you? All that chewing and upper body work requires stamina.

In between there was time for napping and slow-stitching. Yesterday's inchy is stitched. This one has a tiny chain stitch stitch around the center circle, French knots, double lazy daisies, and a running stitch around the outside.

After lunch, we toured the Corvette driving school Mike attended a few years ago. You might remember he celebrated his first retirement this way. If you're interested in hearing more about the school, this blog post will take you on a detailed tour of the facility and the time we spent there. It was a fun way to celebrate. Most of yesterday's time was spent salivating over these cars.

Outside the frame of the image above there is a row of garages on the left where they work on some of the cars. While we stood there, a lamborghini started up and drove off. These sorts of things don't get my heart pumping in the way, say,  slow-stitching does, but the guys were impressed.

Our shadow selves really wanted to climb the tower and look out over the track, so we indulged them. Mike's shadow self pointed out the twists, turns, and other items of interest around the track.

Beyond the track, there is a nice view of the mountains. If you have money to burn, it's possible to buy property here, buy a condo, or build a home where you can watch the goings-on at the track all day long.

When we got back to the RV, the kids retired to their B&B for the afternoon, and we all rested up before dinner. I spent some time with the snowflake. It's been sitting idle for the past couple of days. You might recall I was musing about the outside edge of the snowflake. The instructions say to stem stitch over the dotted line with one of the aqua blue colors (I forget which one). I was wondering how it would look to stick with a running stitch and some metallic floss. As it turns out, I had a metallic in the right color, and so I decided to try it out to see how it looks.

It's a little hard to see the sparkle in the metallic floss, but I liked the way it looks. It seemed a good time for a consult with the Resident Engineer, and he agreed. I'll continue making my way around, but there's still plenty more stitching to do before this one is finished.

We had a nice dinner last night. Mike and I have been to this restaurant three times now, and the food is always delicious and served up with style. Mae chose the wine for the evening.

And we had a nice time talking over all sorts of things.

Erik and Mae are going to strike out on their own for the next day or two. We're having breakfast together, and then they have a Las Vegas day planned for themselves. They'll visit some casinos, some breweries, and take in a Cirque du Soleil show. We old folks will hang out here at the RV park in Pahrump along with the rest of the old folks. We'll be seeing them again before they head back to Portland tomorrow. As for us, we're here in Pahrump until the 17th, and then we'll move along to the next place. I have a loop of sight-seeing planned for us...all weather dependent, as always.

Your inchie looks great. I enjoyed stitching it and it is my favorite so far. I am tempted by your snowflakes but my practical self keeps telling me I can't start anything new. I refuse to disclose how many embroidery projects I have started.

I love the running stitch on the snowflake.
That is a nice picture of the four of you!

You four come up with fun things to do together, mixed with relaxation and separate activities as well. It all looks so enjoyable. I love your snowflakes and how they are turning out! The sun is shining here, so the snowflakes are sparkling, but it's -11 outside. I have another NBS day on tap! Yippee!

The snowflake is beautiful, & I like the running stitch around it too.

Sounds like the perfect balance of resting & restaurant-ing to me!
