This is how I felt about my sewing day yesterday.
The Semper Fi quilt has been my exclusive project for the past 12 days, and I'm running out of steam for it. Fortunately, it is close to a finish. Yesterday's effort resulted in the completion of just one side of the second star border. It took the whole live-long day.
Sadie dearly wanted to help with the trimming of all those half square triangles. She was so utterly helpful I finally corralled her in her little sewing room bed.
She was kind of miffed about how unappurreciative I was, and so she sulked for a while before falling asleep.
The only other sewing I did yesterday was to get a start on Tree #2 for the 12 Trees for Christmas stitchery. This one has a new-to-me stitch in the "whipped back stitch." It's stitched like regular back stitch, but then I wound one strand of floss through each stitch, being careful not to pick up any fabric with my needle. It gives the tree a "tree bark" look. You can probably see it most easily on the left side branches in the image below.
Mike was busy working in the RV yesterday. He's always making little modifications to our RV's, and he's getting it ready for our trip south in January. He spent all of last weekend installing a back-up camera. This weekend, he installed a little 12-volt clock in the bedroom. When we're camping without power, it's nice to be able to see a clock when we wake up at night. I don't know about you, but when I wake up and it's still dark out, I like knowing the time. It's always good to know if you're supposed to get up or go back to sleep, right? Also, he installed a new bike rack on the rear-end. We usually take our bikes when we go on an extended trip.
Today we really will get to the wineries. I'm hoping we'll still be seeing some fall leaves on our drive, but they are getting pretty sparse. It's probably in Semper Fi's best interest if I take a break from it for a day. Besides, I've done almost no housework since I started it, and it would be good to catch up on that too.

All of your projects are wonderful, you have so much energy and organization skills, I am envious! Love the Little Trees and the snowflake fabric. I am thinking that I can adapt you Semper Fi for my son, who just retired from the Army last year. I love all those border, stars and all!!

Yes, I agree, it's good to take a day away from a big project sometimes. The latest star border really looks great. This will be one fabulous gift for your friend.
A day off from a big project is always a good idea, especially when so many star blocks are involved. It is looking very impressive. The more I follow your travels the more I think I need to retire so we can enjoy some more adventures. That won't happen until at least July as I've promised If I do decide to retire I'll stay to the end of this academic year.
All your hours making those stars is paying off in a big way - I think they make the quilt. There's a point in almost every quilt I make where it really just needs to be set aside for a day or three, so i can work on something new and fresh.
A border quilt would tire me out faster than you - you have really whizzed along and a day's break might be good. I've terrorized my furkids over the past few days with the constant horrid vacumming and moving things so the usual territory is a night mare to them.
You deserve a break from Semper Fi, you've been working on it pretty intensely. Sadie definitely has her pout face going on. Another cute little tree! Hope you got the wine, and enjoyed a glass or two!
Semper fit is looking good. I like the whipped back stitch. There are so many embroidery Stitches I do not know. Looking through the stitch book you recommended I see a few I’d like to include on the Bee-utiful blocks I’m still stitching. The one with the bicycle front basket filled with flowers begs me to select an interesting stitch I’ve not tried before. I’m not back to the sewing room just yet. I hope to be there later this week as the back seems to be improving. Perhaps I can get assistance preparing my machine for embroidery to finish baby blankets. Once set up I only need to be nearby to listen for thread changes. I wouldn’t be hunched up over the machine.

I'm always amazed at how long even simple blocks take to make when you have more than one of them. Semper Fi is moving along beautifully.
