Did you see what I did there? See, in baseball, a batter can bunt the ball, and that will allow runners on base to advance, possibly scoring. But see, I spelled it with a "d," which refers to cake, and this one was really good, so I'm calling it a home run. Ha!!!!! Oh my goodness. The humor never ceases here at the Three Cats Ranch.
Sadie is not amewsed by my bad jokes.
But really, I was procrastinating getting into the sewing room, and so I decided to bake this mini bundt cake that caught my eye a few days ago. First, I needed the right sized pan. Fortunately, the recipe's accompanying blog post included a link to the cutest bundt pan you've ever seen. It has a 3-cup capacity. Mine arrived on Sunday, and so I wasted no time testing it out.
This is the Mini Pumpkin Bundt Cake with Bourbon Glaze.
Isn't it the cutest thing?
It was made from some pumpkin puree from a years-gone-by CSA share. I've had it in the freezer for a while, and so it was good to get it out of there. And now that I know the capacity of this pan (3 cups) vs. the capacity of a full-sized bundt pan (12 cups), I can attempt to make any bundt cake recipe into a recipe for two by cutting the recipe down to one-fourth. Holy moly...you can be on the lookout for a few bundt cakes for two coming out of my kitchen very soon. This one was quite tasty and very moist. It's a little too big to cut in half and serve once. We cut it into quarters, and so it's really a recipe for two, two times.
Okay, so then I dragged myself into the sewing room to make 15 more friendship stars. Trimming the half square triangles for these blocks is killing my wrist. Each one has four half square triangles, and so I trimmed 60 of them to get these 15 blocks.
That was as far as I got with them. It was getting late in the day, and I really wasn't up for pinning a long border to the side of the quilt. I'll finish up that border today, and then get on with the stars for the top and bottom of the quilt. Fortunately, there is one less in those two rows, and even one less in the last row because I've already made a model. You can see how desperately I'm clinging to how few there are left. 14 in one row, 13 in the last. And then...THE LAST BORDER and this quilt top will be finished. Smitty has been seriously helpful in this whole endeavor. Just look at that serious expurression on his face.
He was very brave last night and sat on his window perch for about one minute. Neither kitty has attempted to jump onto it yet. Any pictures you see of them sitting on it are because someone picked them up and put them there.
My friend Katie left an encouraging comment yesterday, saying that her kitties were suspicious of this perch too, but eventually started using it. I do think they'll like it better when we have it in the fifth wheel. We might end up getting a second one, so that everybody has their own space (including the humans).
So it's back to the friendship stars for me today. I'm just plugging away at them, and I'm determined to finish the quilt top by Friday. We'll just see how far my determination takes me, won't we? Also, it's a CSA pick-up day. I know I said last week's pick-up was the last one of the season, but I was mistaken. Honestly and truly, this week is the last. Maybe there will be something I can use to make another bundt cake!

Oooh I love that bundt cake (and I like teams that play "small ball" and bunt people around!lol) Anyhoo--will definitely be getting one for the two of us...thanks for the linky...;)))
I am not doing any cutting except with my Go! BAby die cutter--cutting my hubby's old shirts into strips--they are the only plaids I own..
I looked at his lap quilt and realized yesterday that it is 20-- repeat TWENTY years old--yikes--fabrics wearing out--ya think? Sooo, am thinking I'd make him a surprise one...we'll see...
Teeming rains here (weather report stated "Just a few sprinkles!!)
Hugs, Julierose
I like that idea of a smaller pan...might have to look into one for the hubby and I. As it stands, I bake the things and take the majority if it to work. While my coworkers are not shy about sharing, sometimes it's nice to have stuff that is just for us. And another trick for the perch - ours is near enough the couch that the kitties have a more familiar starting point (or at least a lesser jump to get there), so maybe if you put a chair (steal one from the dining room table because if it's like ours, no one eats there anyways) next to it for a trial? (And you just never know what will happen...little Freddie stood on his tiptoes the other day so he could gnaw on the frame from the floor...he may not me very smart, but he's cute enough to make up for it!)
Oh my goodness, girl--I do believe you are seeing 'stars'--all over the place--but you are nearly done so I know you can hang in there and get them finished!!
I have just 2 more monthly Word Plays in counted cross stitch to do--Nov's and Dec's and I so wanted to go straight to Dec's--but--I had a good stiff talking to myself about it and this morning I did start the Nov one--so we will see!!
luv, di
I usually work HSTs in groups of 10 with breaks between - helps with fatique and stress (or cut fingers). You really have stuck right to it and with the snoopervisor you have - I would too. I'm not a sweets person, but what a cute little pan and the possibilities.
Oh heavens, I have one of those mini bundt pans that makes four at a time. I haven't used it in years! Might be nice for some Thanksgiving gifts of pumpkin cake.
Oh, that little Bundt is so cute. My finger is hovering over the "add to cart" button now. I've debated about getting Wilbur one of those window seats. He's busy stalking a squirrel at the moment; never mind the window inbetween! Haha!
My gosh, you guys are such dessert lightweights, cutting into quarters a cake clearly designed for one. Sheesh. But you are a master quilter, so I guess it all balances out.
As I believe I said on f'book: "YUM!" That little bundt cake looks seriously delicious!
Good job Smitty, keeping mom on the job with those HSTs.
