Progress is slow but sure on the Semper Fi quilt. Yesterday's effort took me all the way around with the first Friendship Star border.
After that, I carefully counted out all the squares for the remaining 58 Friendship Stars along with all the squares I'd need for the corners and centers of the blocks.
When I was certain I had all I needed, I cut the remaining strip of blue fabric (about 9 inches worth) and made borders from it. The next three borders are laid out now in order from right to left. When I get back into the sewing room today, I'll sew them to the quilt center.
While I was doing that, Smitty was posing for some posters he's creating. He's going to become a Purrine Corps recruitment officer. He was having a hard time deciding whether he should stick with a strong purrofile shot...
or the more relaxed and seductive shot.
Which do you purrfer?
Of course, all work and no play makes Smitty a dull cat, and so he took frequent breaks to soak up the sun on the catio. It was cold yesterday...and blustery...but it was nice in the warm sunshine.
By day's end, he was 'zhausted. And the light was so bright!
While he was napping, I took a little extra time stitching on Pieces of the Past, filling in the next section.
Now I've hooped the last of it, and I'm hoping to finish it up this morning.
There's another new project in the works after this one. As I've mentioned before, one of the projects on my embroidery dance card is a "short" one, which simply means it's a project that can be stitched from start to finish in one fell swoop. Today I'll probably trace out the design for the 12 Trees for Christmas. It seems like a fun one to be doing as Christmas approaches. The pattern is from Mary Corbet's Needle 'n Thread newsletter. It's a collection of twelve 3" Christmas tree designs in styles ranging from vintage to modern.
It also includes some bead work. I haven't done a lot of bead work, but I have some beads on order to complete the designs in this grouping. I purchased the eBook while we were making our way around the perimeter of the United States, and just recently found it in my Dropbox. It seems like a good time to get started on it. I'm not really sure how long each one will take, and so I don't actually know if it qualifies as a "short" project. Either way, it will be fun to work on with Christmas approaching. Unless we get a lot more energetic, these might be our only Christmas trees this season.
This morning I'm heading out for my monthly pedicure, and then I'll get back to my sewing. We're expecting warmer weather today, a nice change from yesterday's frigid temperatures.

Smitty would make an excellent Purrine Corps recruitment officer. And your quilt looked a great way back, but each addition just makes it sparkle with honor and love.
I like the relaxed look for his Purrine Corps recruitment poster. The new project of little trees looks like fun.
We've been in the 70s this week - so nice after the 90 - 100s just prior. It's been pretty quiet where I am, but looks a little breezy just now. Unfortunately in some of the fire areas they are talking 80mph winds! The latest fire in the Simi area was threatening the Reagan Library this morning. Oh and we're at 5% humidity. Send some of your wetness down here please!!
The Marine quilt is looking dandy! I don't know why you think you're going slow, looks FAST to me!
Loving those star borders--really pretty hugs, Julierose
Smitty is handsome from pretty much any angle, I'd say. That tree project looks fun, and you have made good progress on the Marine quilt. It is very chilly here. I need to go out and about today, but might find excuses to just stay in.
When concerned about enough fabric you figure out everything multiple times and hope you haven’t had a brain freeze over the math. We are chilly here today. Up to 44* now. I don’t how that is perceived by the firefighters on the fire line as far as making it easier or more difficult. It’s supposed to get to 74*. Back issues are keeping me out of the sewing room. It happens.
Enjoy getting the rest of the stars made. As you near the finish line on this row I’m sure you will be a happy stitcher.
You've been making steady project on both the quilt and the hand stitching. Love the embroidery you just started and those trees look like fun too.
