There was much to accomplish in the daylight hours yesterday. There was blogging and slow-stitching, and then, I wanted to get at least a start on the next section of the pansy mosaic before I took off for my monthly pedicure. There was also a refueling stop, and a mailbox stop, and grocery shopping to do. What's a cat lady to do?
Well, first, Smitty moved his morning sunbath to the window next to my desk as I was writing my blog post yesterday. He was purrtesting the slow start to his morning hunting expedition.
When we went down stairs...let's just say "chomping at the bit" doesn't begin to describe it.
With them set free, I went to work on the 8th of 10 sections for the pansy mosaic. I was on the third of seven 4 x 4's when time ran out. It was laid out for sewing, and so I covered it with a ruler...just in case a big wind came up, or something.
After that, I headed out taking care of all my errands. It was one of those days where I should probably have been outfitted with red lights and a siren in the grocery store. Fortunately, no innocent bystanders were mowed down by my speeding shopping cart.
When I got home, it took a couple more hours, and I had the 8th section finished. Here's how it's looking now. The yellow pansy is finished.
Now that it's getting to be a larger quilt, we're having to enforce the no-flying-quilts rule. Sadie took the first shift.
Today will be much the same as yesterday, except today I'm going on a fabric shopping expedition. It's urgently important that I spend my birthday discount at my favorite nearby quilt shop, Boersma's. I'm only looking for homespun, but you know how it goes when you walk into a quilt shop and all the bolts of fabric start vying for your attention. "Me! Me! Me!" they call out. Or maybe I'm the only one who can hear that. After all, I live with talking cats.

No--you are not the only one who hears "me me me"--some things don't even say 'me'--they simply "jump" into the cart and announce--you are taking me home-
'period'!!!! This happens to me not only in fabric stores, but yarn shops, and the grocery stores and regular stores and on line----it is endless!!!
But I have learned some self control--but that depends on the mood, the hour, the day-----
luv, di
Pansy is really coming together so well...and quickly, too! I love how it's looking...you had a busy day...I managed to get out and walk our town boardwalk this morning--it was very foggy with Mr. Sun bravely trying to peek out...but lovely salt-filled air....so nice...hugs, Julierose
Can't wait to see your newest treasures from Boersmas. I don't think I ever got out of there empty-handed. I even bought the Janome there - nearly 7 years ago now.
Fabric and patterns call out to me, too. But I also have talking cats!
Oh my the pansy project is really coming to life! I have talking cats as well - and fabric that not only called out 'me', but grabbed me by the arm and twisted.
Well, if that doesn't sound like birthday fun, I don't know what is! Happy Birthday, too, if I didn't wish it before. I hope you shop with reckless abandon -- haha! Boy, Sadie on the pansy quilt really gives a good idea of how small those squares are! Yikes. No wonder you do it a little at a time! Enjoy your weekend, Barbara!
I love those mosaic quilts! I definitely am going to make one (or two), but would like your input. Which do you think would be the best to start with: the sunflower, or the pansies! Or would they be pretty much equally difficult? I think for me the most difficult aspect would be choosing the fabrics to get the proper shading. Does the pattern help with that much? Thanks for any input. I love how detailed your blog is—you have inspired many projects for me.
I have always loved pansies and your quilt is so pretty.
Love the pansy quilt, it's a perfect spring project. Glad you got your errands all handled. I've been so good of giving a deaf hear to the fabrics in the shop. Not sure how much longer I can hold out on that front. The fabrics are very sneaky about getting into your head so you can't get them out.
Sadie is a lovely "quilt weight" for the Pansies. :)
I went into a quilt shop last weekend, the first time in quite a while! Didn't realize that there was a chalk art festival going on in downtown Glendora - was lucky to find a parking spot on the next street over! But I needed to get the fabric for a workshop I'm taking on the 11th. It's a Bargello class with Sylvia Davis. It uses an ombre fabric with 1 contrasting fabric. I found an ombre that goes from deep red to almost a peachy color, and for my contrast, a light-ish yellow.
Wish me luck!
Not only do cats talk to me, but I can also tell what the deer think of the stupid cows who do not look out for danger, how when they (the deer)dash across the road in front of me all wet from having gone through the creek and have just had their bath feels so good! How the neighbor dogs who bark at everything are bored. (they have 4 dogs now!) How the pansy's I planted today are happy to stretch their roots in the soil at last! Pansy quilt with Sadie on top reminds me of a flying carpet... where are her dreams flying off to as she naps there?
