Morning Walk

We had a couple of errands to run in town today, and so we decided to combine it with a morning walk down Main Street in our little town of Newberg, Oregon. Right away, the kittens in the window of a pet store stopped us in our tracks. These kittens look to be about 12 weeks old.

They were active and playing. It was a little hard to get a good picture of them because of glare on the windows. That didn't stop me from trying though.

This little guy looks like trouble to me.

There were a few blooming things along the way.

Newberg is a historic town, having been incorporated in 1889, and so Main Street is lined with historic buildings. I took a few pictures of their facades for the "Windows and Walls" quilt I'd like to make some day.

There were a few classic vehicles along the way including this stage coach. No idea why it's there.

We saw this old sheriff's car from Wasco County at a classic car lot. They had a lot of beautiful classic cars, but I really liked the police car. It was hard to see my screen in the bright sunlight, and so I cut off the front end of the car a little bit. I love that cherry light on top.

Thankfully, I took a picture of the front end of the car. Pretty snazzy.

When we got home, I put the final stitches on Mildred. Sorry I couldn't do more to make you a little prettier, Mildred, but that's the way it goes. She's kind of a woman after my own heart with her socks and Birkenstocks. It was practically required attire when I was an employed social worker.

The next time I work on the Bag Ladies, I'll be doing Constance. If you're stitching along, please do whichever bag lady you like. And I must say, Constance looks a little too classy to be a bag lady.

Next I'll be working on the hand-quilting for Mumm's the Word. I'll work on it until the end of the month or until I finish it, whichever comes first. Since I'm fairly certain I'm going to have to report for jury duty tomorrow, I'll need something to work on while I wait. I don't want to drag along that whole quilt. Instead, I took some time to make up the next block for the Summer Holiday quilt. This one is called "A Day at the Beach."

Well, and now that I'm looking at a picture of this, I can see I left off the remainder of the dog's ring and some rays on the sun. I'll have to fix that. Then, it will be ready for stitching. I love that the bird is wearing a swimsuit.

Once I get that fixed and ready to take along with me, I'll get back to quilting Wheel Estate. My housework is done for the day, and so it's NBS...the best way to spend an afternoon.

You could take that Stage Coach instead of the RV, for you next trip. Wouldn't Smitty have an interesting ride.....

Don't you need Cat #3 for three cats ranch? That black on would fit right in.

Oooh I love the "bubble glass" windows in the last building picture! My sister had a Queen Anne Victorian cottage built in the 1890s and it had that original kind of glass in the windows. Maybe not quite as many bubbles as those, but still bubbles. I can see you tooling around town in that Police car....
I admire your fortitude in only photographing the kittens! Oh my! So, so cute.
Connie is a fancy quilter, isn't she? But I think maybe Mildred is more fun!

As soon as you said kittens in the window of a pet store, I assumed you picked out a new kitty to round out the furamily at 3 Cats Ranch! I think the little black has your name on it!

Love the buildings there! I go to Port Townsend up here close to me once in a while and I feel I always have to walk the old part of that town. Next time I will take my camera and some pictures to share with you. They have some beautiful buildings there as well.

I am taking an embroidery class on Craftsy to upgrade what I know...or maybe forget what I know and relearn the whole shebang! I know I need practice tracing out the designs for sure. I purchased a light "box" to help me with that. Then after I feel confident in that I will start on Girl's Getaway. Oh! And thanks for reminding me! I had forgotten to order the third pattern for that until I read your post from the other day. It is now winging its way here.

I had to report for jury duty a few years ago. It may be different in Canada but I spent a lot of time sitting around. It's important to get there early to get a good chair--preferably at a table and then stake it out for subsequent days. I didn't get picked. But there were several nurses and a couple of engineers that did. In fact, I'm told nurses are quite popular for juries. So, perhaps social workers will be in similar demand.
I agree it would be an interesting experience, but I hope it's not incest or homicide--too dreary.
Let's hope for something a little more gentle--fraud, inside stock trading--

Cute kittens. It is good to see old buildings that are still in use and taken care of. Love the Ford!

Those kitties would play nicely with your two, don't you think?? Thanks for taking us along on your walk once again. Those windows and walls were pretty cool. Hope you enjoy jury duty!

I love old towns. Chicago has a lot of interesting things on and inside their buildings. On Lasalle St there was one that had Indians with their headdresses on. The ceiling in the cultural center is interesting and colorful too. Of course they have modern stuff like "The Bean". I have two rescue black kitties-well their about 1 1/2 now. The male, Marley, looks like the one in your photo. He loves to be petted and when he gets up in the morning he grabs his ball to play with for awhile. When he's down he looks to be sure no one is watching and hides it. His sister, Bear, is long hair and has round eyes that makes her soooo adorable. She loves to rub on you and be petted. She even lets you pet her stomach without treating you like a mouse. Her purring machine never stops. I've never heard a cat purr so much. Of course she loves my dog Phoebe and rubs on her but Phoebe doesn't like that, she keeps moving away and the pesky little cat keeps following her. Phoebe growls and barks but has never tried to bite them. It's a shame black cats have such a silly superstition about them with many people. I've heard they're the hardest ones to adopt out, except around Halloween and a lot of shelters won't adopt them out around then. So sad.

You couldn't have just the one kitten and leave the other one all alone in that window ......

Very fiesty little kitties. Drama Teen headed over to ARF (they take in stray cats and soon to be taking stray doggies) today to pet the kitties, she missed them while she was on vacation. Hope you got in lots of stitching.

The kitties are really cute. I loved your Doors of Ireland quilt and a windows and walls quilt sounds great fun. Doors, windows and walls are all things we see everyday but we totally under appreciate their design elements, especially on the older buildings. You Doors of Ireland quilt made me look at doors in a whole new light.

Lots of good things in this post. I agree that you need another kitty to round out your family. Of course this might not be a good idea with you getting ready to do a lot more traveling round the U.S. It's amazing that your two are such good travelers.
