Quilt Shop: Quilted Angel, Petaluma, California

It was thoroughly enjoyable visiting the Quilted Angel quilt shop yesterday. Quilted Angel claims to be one of the largest quilt shops in the San Francisco area with over 5,000 bolts of fabric. I didn't count, but certainly, there must have been at least that many. This is a shop stacked to the gills with fabric, books, patterns, thread, floss, and notions.

Walking in the front door, this is what you see.

Just to my left was this red and white kitten quilt and these chicken placemats. Patterns were available for both.

This shop seems to specialize in calicoes and florals. There was a lot of color.

They had a nice supply of notions, including the tools to make double fold bias tape in all sizes. Recently I wanted a particular size, but I forget why. The one I had was the wrong side, of course, and so I considered buying one in every size for about two seconds, and then came to my senses. But don't worry. That didn't last long either.

They had fabric out for a lot of different holidays.

In the back of the store was a large classroom.

This whole wall was batiks.

This little quilt was called "Lovely Four Patch." There was a pattern available, but I studied it for just a minute to get the design. If you look at it, you can see that there are two four patches within each four patch...kind of an Irish chain layout. I always love those jewel tones on a black background. This wouldn't be difficult to figure out.

The bricks in this landscape basket caught my eye. For some reason I'm drawn to brick fabrics of all kinds, but I passed these by. I didn't see any other landscape fabrics, but I wasn't looking for them either.

They had one whole wall of Kaffe Fassett fabrics. I've seen these in every quilt shop I've visited. Kaffe is obviously doing a booming business, and it's easy to see why with all that color.

On the back wall was a very nice selection of darker civil war prints.

At the far end of the same wall, a nice supply of neutrals.

They had a remnant bin...one of my favorite features. I can almost always find something here I like, and these were 20% off the already reduced price.

And look at these yummy polka dots. Swoon!

This shop had a nice play area for the kids. This would have been appreciated by anyone bringing small children into the store.

They had an excellent assortment of my favorite Creative Grids rulers. I looked for any sizes that might make my life more complete. My favorite is the 4 1/2 x 8 1/2 inch...or something close to that...I can't remember the exact size, but I use that ruler constantly. I love these for their non-skid feet on the back side.

There were two button bins with buttons for 20 cents each.

This store had a nice selection of embroidery supplies, which I don't always see.

Also, they had patterns from some of my favorite designers, such as Aunt Martha...I love her iron on patterns.

Also Crabapple Hill Studio.

Also, Bird Brain Designs, and some others. I could have gone crazy here alone, but I can't remember what I already have at home. I've been known to purchase the same pattern twice.

There were lots of books in this store. I almost never buy books in a quilt shop, finding them cheaper through Amazon.com, but it's nice to be able to browse the book before buying.

Below the books was a supply of sale fabric still on the bolt. That stripe about 1/3 of the way from the right side was very tempting.

In the back of the store was a nice shelf of tone-on-tones.

Also...sock monkeys!!!!!

In the very back of the store was a shelf with Halloween and Christmas fabric.

Here, my resistance crumbled. I had to have this one below. You can't see it in this image, but the orange is actually a metallic copper color. I already have all the fabric I need to finish up the Hocuspocusville quilt, but I'm sure I can find a place for this too.

They didn't have much in the way of regional prints, and I've been disappointed that I can't find a California poppy fabric. Nevertheless, these camping fabrics were tempting.

Then I saw this whale fabric, and so I picked up a half yard of that. The color is actually pale blue with gray whales. I couldn't get the colors to shine true for the picture...not sure why. This will go into my Quilty 365.

While the store employee was cutting my fabric, someone else she'd been ringing up wanted to finish up her purchase, and so she walked away for a moment. That was when I noticed this "Sleepy Sloth" quilt. Cute, huh?

Also, I'd seen this bolt behind the cutting counter and took a picture, because I was absolutely, positively not going to buy any more cat fabric. Then, I noticed that she'd taken the fabric off the bolt and was readying it to go into the remnant bin. Well. Don't you know I snatched that up for myself. I got the remnant price, plus the 20% discount. The fabric is called Smarty Cats.

So...another successful quilt shop visit...although I'm not sure failure is possible.

As for my own stitching, we've been so busy sight-seeing, there hasn't been much time for sewing. I did make a little more progress on Hocuspocusville.

Since it's June now, however, I need to get back to the Bag Ladies. While I was switching out my stitchery projects, I unpacked the Summer Holiday that was finished up earlier and took a picture for you to see it. It still needs its scrappy border added.

Now I'm starting on Beulah. She's kind of scary-looking, don't you think? I wouldn't want to run into her in a dark alley.

Someone else noted that the hair takes a long time, and that's where I started. Once I've stitched the individual strands, I'm supposed to fill in with stem stitch. However, I think my Beulah is going to have thin stringy hair like mine.

All this stitching and sight-seeing has Smitty pretty worn out.

Finally, this little bit of blog housekeeping. It's time to link up to the June OMG.

Elm Street Quilts

My goal for June is to quilt and bind the Snips and Snails quilt.

Today we'll be heading up to Fort Bragg. We'll have two nights there, and tomorrow we'll make our way over to have a look at the glass beach.

Great shop and love all the embroidery patterns. I need to make up some pieces to take on our trip but they are large ones. I also bring some material, just in case i get inspired to draw up a design for fun.

I love sock monkeys! And buttons, I am a sucker for buttons. I don't think Beulah looks scary, just sad. Poor thing, she probably just needs reassurance. And, no doubt, a cat.

Fabulous shop!! Very lucky all those 'mourning' (dark) CW prints that are so hard to find aroud here. I could spend the whole day in this shop.

What a great store! Looks like they had something for every taste... I especially am in awe of the polka dots since I have never met a polka dot I didn't like. I love your choice for the 365 quilt but I would have lost my resolve in the Kaffe section, all that color just makes me happy! I have made many Civil War fabric quilts so I stopped fighting the war a couple of years ago now I guess I am in my Kaffe and Tula pink phase so all that color just calls my name. What a fabulous selection f creative grid rulers I have worn out a couple of mine I use them so often so I got a back up set for when they are no longer useable. I love Creative grid rulers... Keep on having a great time . Thanks for the great quilt shop tour.

Great shop. I'll have to stop in when I finally get down there.
Your guided tour through there reminded me that I needed to order my next pattern for Girl's Getaway. So I stepped out for a moment and ordered it.
Something has to get me out of my funk. So hopefully when that comes in I will get myself moving and get started.
Thanks for sharing your trip with us. This is fun!

Looks like a very dangerous quilt shop. I'd have to lock up my credit card for sure. You did really well on resisting temptation. You got some fun stuff. I really like that spiderweb fabric. Happy travels this week.

I could have spent a small fortune in that quilt shop. Not that I need any particular fabric but I'm always open to suggestions and I could definitely do with some more rulers, and I'm a bit short on thread. I had a similar spider web fabric but it wasn't metallic. That looks really awesome.

Super shop -- I love CG rulers and most shops have very few. You hit a gold mine.

That is a wonderful quilt shop! It seems to have a little of every thing!

I finished Beulah's hair. Since I use the stem stitch, I probably should fill it in with back stitch! But I think they look more like a bag lady with stringy hair!

What a fabulous quilt shop. One could easily drop some serious cash in that place (well of course really in ANY quilt shop lol). That red and white embroidered cat quilt is so cute. And I keep thinking I want to add some Kaffe fabric to my stash. So beautifully bright and cheery. Love the cat fabric and it was on sale! Can't beat that. I may have some of that. Not sure. I've been collecting cat fabric and me thinks I need to keep a photo file of what I have. I recently bought a fat quarter of some I already had! Lol.

Yikes! That quilt shop is a holiday destination in itself! The whale fabric is cute.

Yoy were 100 percent correct in grabbing "Smarty" cats fabric, so dang cute.
