Adventurous Day

We were promised an 80°F day on Wednesday, and the weather did not disappoint. With so much rain, it was a little muggy, but we weren't complaining. We needed to pick up a wine shipment and then we headed to the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival in Woodburn, Oregon. The tulip festival generally opens at the end of March and closes at the end of April. It was decided to leave it open one more week. Many of the fields were bloomed out, and the flowers weren't as pretty as some years past. Lesson learned: go earlier! Still, there were plenty of eye-poppers, and it was a wonderful way to spend the day.

Just behind that stand of trees in the image below is Mt. Hood, which remained stubbornly shrouded in clouds the whole time we were there. Nevertheless, it was a beautiful setting.

I took a lot of pictures, so I'll just keep quiet and let you look.

Isn't this a lovely place to take a seat?

And check out this John Deere tractor. I have a feeling they don't come from the factory this way. It looks like a Mary Kay version. Sell enough cosmetics, and you too can have a pink tractor. Something to strive for.

Even the weeds were pretty.

After we left the tulip festival, we were just about ten miles from Silverton, where there is a restaurant we like called Mac's Place. There is outdoor seating in the rear right beside Silver Creek. It was such a lovely day and so we treated ourselves to lunch.

When we got home, I was delighted to find a surprise gift from my friend Robin...The Emperor's mom. She sent me some beautiful kitty fabrics from this designer:

Feline Dezine is located just south of me in Albany, Oregon. What a treat! It looks like a web-based store, but what a lot of cute fabrics they have. Robin sent me this panel. Have you ever seen such cute cat designs?

And then these four cuts of fabric. They are all adorable, and I think that second one from the right is my favorite.

Even the ribbon they were wrapped with was cute!

Thank you so much, Robin. That was totally unnecessary, but I'm so glad you felt compelled! Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. Cute, cute, cute!!!

So...lots of fun, but nothing accomplished. This morning I'm having breakfast with Matthew, and then I'm going to get busy on the binding for the Mommy & Me quilt. The next week is about to get very, very busy, and I'm sewing as fast as I can. The family is coming over on Saturday for a get-together, and then there will be lots to do to get ready for our trip next week. It always feels like too much, but then it somehow comes together in the end. It makes me think of when Alice first met the white rabbit in Disney's version of Alice in Wonderland.

I'm late! I'm late! For a very important date!
No time to say hello, good-bye!
I'm late, I'm late, I'm late, I'm late!

As for me...I'm not really late, but I'm definitely in hurry-up mode.

This year was my first year going to the Tulip Festival. It was beautiful! Very muddy on the day I went, but at least it wasn't raining. :) Lovely photos!

And to think that those are the "leftovers" of the tulips - WOW!

Very fun cat fabrics, what a nice surprise.

I think many of us are looking forward to your trip as much as you are!! You always find interesting things to educate us about and the photos - oh my, the PHOTOS!

Beautiful Tulips. I would have been laughed out of the county if I had a Pink Deere! Just because I was a girl farmer, did not mean we could be girly!

That is the cutest fabric! Thanks for the link. I need to have hubby hide the credit card!

I remember getting ready for a Girl Scout Camp out. I knew the girls were all excited, but I just could not work up the excitement. Probably because I knew they would nap in the car and I had to drive! I always had fun when we got there and hated to leave. I think it was the tedium of packing and making sure we had every little thing we would need! Now I miss it!

I just got some cat fabric too! Only a two yard piece of some nice brightly colored kitties and then some more subtlety colored fat quarters, all fun stuff!
Tulips have the most wonderful colors now! I have a few different colors growing here. I think I am going to have to collect different bulbs every year, it is so much fun to watch them come up in the spring and bloom!
I've had a busy week with my daughter here visiting and I am exhausted every night when we finally go to bed. Next week, she will be gone and I will be thinking it's too quiet here. I am going to keep really busy with all the quilting catch up I need to do now! (Thank goodness!!!)

Gorgeous tulips! So much saturated color. Robin hit the jackpot on the fabrics, those are all really, really cute. Can we expect another kitty themed quilt in the near future?

Gorgeous pictures, I so love tulips! With a prize of a pink tractor I might just sell make-up, or wear it LOL.

We have a tulip festival here in Holland, MI. It is going on right now. It lasts for two weeks. You can read all about it here: http://www.tuliptime.com/

There is a song we learned in elementary school about it. The words are:

Tulips are blooming in Holland, Michigan,
Tulips bright colored and gay;
Dance on the scrubbed streets of Holland, Michigan,
When tulips bloom in May.

Like you, I didn't plant all the different tulips I have in all the places they are blooming in my yard. I think the chipmunks are doing the transplanting.

I thought "Mary Kay" when I saw the pink tractor too.

Beautiful photos of such lovely tulips (I had only 3 this year). I have a few of those kitty prints - I did visit the site and thank you for the link (but I resisted-this time).
