Snow Sewing

It snowed well into the afternoon yesterday. By the time it stopped, we had about eight inches of accumulation. Mike stayed home from work, and there wasn't much else to do but sew. Pinwheel Poetry is quilted and bound now. It's quilted in a diagonal grid over the pinwheels with a few little swoop-de-doos (technical quilting terms) on the border and pinwheels at the cornerstones. I used the same rainbow fabric from the flange for the binding.

The quilting makes those pinwheels puff up a little and gives them kind of an interesting secondary pattern. (I guess that's kind of the point with quilting.) Here's how it looks from the back:

The king seems to like it.

Fur me???? Oh you really shouldn't have, but I'm certainly apurreciative of your effurts.

It's been on the floor for him to enjoy ever since, and he's been caught napping there. I think he likes it. Sadie's has been out too, but I'm realizing hers might be a little too small.

There will be more challenges coming up, and so I'll probably make a larger one for her eventually.

With that finished, it seemed a good time to make the March block for the Block Lotto. This is the "Broken Dishes" block. It's pretty in those blues. This was made using the "Magic 8" method for making half square triangles eight at a time. It worked!

Then I got onto Clue #3 for the "Welcome Home" small quilt mystery challenge. This is another of Kathleen Tracy's creations. For Clue #3, we just added a border around the outside.

Clue #2 included making eight square-in-a-square blocks, and there are an additional eight to make for Clue #3. Hopefully, I'll get to those today. Have you noticed that these challenges are keeping me from working on my WIP's? I said I was going to get to work on the next section of "And On that Farm." Have you seen any sign of that?

So by afternoon, the snow stopped and the sun came out. It's pretty in the sunshine.

Now we're back to gloom and slush. It's an egg pick-up day today, and I was worried about the roads. In the valley, it's just wet pavement, but our hill can be a whole different world. Mike texted me to say that the roads are fine. Usually I head over the top of the mountain to get to our farmers' place, but today I'll take the low road.

When I looked out just before sitting down here, I noticed some critter has been wandering across the sidewalk and in the direction of the birdfeeders. It has an elongated track, possibly a rabbit or a raccoon. I can assure you, it wasn't Smitty.

And today I must start packing up for my class. Today I need to sort through some fabrics and pick some to take. For last year's class, I ended up purchasing quite a few fabrics at the quilt shop where the class is being held. We get a discount, and as an Oregon resident, I pay no sales tax. Knowing which picture I'm using narrows the choices quite a bit, and I'm not going to take as many fabrics as I did last year. Still, there's a lot of packing and organizing to do, and I'm not looking forward to it. Tomorrow I'll focus on my clothing and personal care items. And Thursday, off I go!

Smitty's blanket is just adorable! He looks pleased! I love the binding, and the inner flange. You do such wonderful stuff!
Packing is not fun...but if you keep in mind the end result it might be just a little more pleasant.

Smitty's pinwheel quilt is just beautiful! Love how you worked out the placement of the pinwheels and then that flange and binding just made the quilt. The quilting is wonderful. Hope you have a fun class and have some photos to share.

Love those kitty quilts, and they can never have too many strewn about in their favorite lounging places! Too much snow there for sure!

I love the bonus pinwheels, and your challenge blocks are beautiful. We are pretty much snowless and today it was warm (about 50) and sunny. This is another strange winter for sure. Getting ready for a trip is never much fun, but you know you'll have a great time once you get there. :)

I like the quilting on the pinwheels! Sadie probably does need a bigger quilt! Interesting tracks in the snow!

Smitty should be happy with that quilt, it's purrfect! Your sunshiny view is really beautiful. We have high winds here, but the temps are fairly mild. Snow is in the talks for the weekend. Enjoy your day!

You have me wanting to go make rainbow pinwheels! I'm not telling my pooch the cat got your pinwheels, because then she'll start getting ideas. On the other hand, she already thinks every quilt is hers...

Smitty, as usual, your good taste in quilts is showing. Love that rainbow flange & binding!

The snowy yard looks so beautiful with the sun shining on it. And it's close to 90f here today.
