Apurrtment Hunting

Good morning, furriends. Smitty here to update you on the goings on here at the Three Cats Ranch. My dad has been hard at work building an apurrtment for Sadie and me. Even though I have stressed that this is completely unnecessary, he purrsists in this purrsuit of kitty kaptivity. Go figure. Yesterday, he built a bunch of shelves and climbing platfurrms.

I would have helped him, but he was pounding and hammering and sawing, and you know...that's not good for a cat's ears, and so I stayed away.

And then he was trying to make it all comfurrtable...as if...and so he put a bed and some towels and stuff in there.

And then he wanted me, Smitty, to come out and see all his hard effurrts. And what could I say? You don't want to disappurrnt he who wields the can opener, you know what I mean? But furrst, I gave that blower a good once over. That thing is scary. You want to make sure that noisy thing is turned off.

Having satisfied myself that it was safe to explore, I decided to give my dad a break and inspect every nook and cranny. Hmm...I like the addition of the towel. It's more comfurrtable fur my feeties.

I was sort of wishing my dad would leave so that Sadie and I could discuss this whole apurrtment thing openly and honestly. Kitties value honesty above most everything except furry mammals and flying feathered things.

And I'm kind of like...okay, this isn't to bad.

So then I jumped to the platfurrm where the bed is. This could be a good napping place. Hey, Sadie, you should jump up here and check this out.

That's okay, Smitty. You go right ahead. I'll just stay here on the down low while you evaluate.

And then, from there, you can go even higher...which is saying something when you haven't even imbibed in any nip...and...hmmmmm...

I think there might be some escape purrtential here.

Maybe I could lift up this roof or something.

Oh, whoa. There's my dad. Better hold off on the escape until he's not watching.

So, my furriends....here's where it stands. My dad built this apurrtment for us, and we both hate it.

But fur now, we'll purrtend it's okay. And I'll just keep working on figuring out this escape route. I know there's gotta be a way out of here. A cat just needs to put on his thinking cap.

Y'know Smitster, not everyone has great parents like you & Sadie do to build them their own apurrtment! So do the best you can to like it & maybe it will grow on you. :)

Wow Smitty. You clearly did not take Destruction 101. My brother loves to chew plastic and I like to climb. Neither of us even get to go near a screen until we're too old, senile and decrepit. Which may be real soon for my brother because he likes to eat plastic too. Lovies from Molly.

Boy, do they. Think about escaping. My disabled tom spent ALL his time figuring out how to get over a six foot tightly fence back yard, and he was missing a whole back leg. Finally we used 8 foot roofing panels to heighten the fence and give no purchases for his claws. My husband REALLY wanted him to have some outdoor freedom. Over the years he did give it a rest, but we had to be very careful what we put near the bottom of the fence and of course remember to keep the garage door closed. He passed a few years ago and I still miss by sweet Toby boy. My calico female doesn't even try but she spends most of her time lurching by the garage door. Hold it open a second too long and she's through in a flash. Unlike dogs, cats just seem hardwired to have to be totally free when outdoors.

You know Smitty having an appurtment isn't a bad idea at all and I'm sure you will come to love it in time. You certainly wouldn't want some big creature get your new friend Sadie, now would ya. A gentlecat has to take care of his furiends.

That's quite an apurrtment! You have a really nice Dad. I'm sure he'd never fell bad if you told him you hated it. But you know how Mom's about that kind of stuff. Hopefully the space will grown on you.
