Happy Mother's Day

Aside from a little bit of embroidery this morning, I've spent this Mother's Day morning cleaning up after last night's dinner. The dinner was very nice. All the kids were here along with Mae's mother, Jane. I hadn't seen her since Erik and Mae's wedding in 2009. She's here on a 10-day visit from Georgia. The food was good, and we laughed a lot, and now pretty much everything is back to normal.

Today I have another batch of quilts to show you from the Northwest Quilters Guild quilt show. When I left off yesterday, I told you I'd have a few more to show you from the Hawaiian fabric challenge. Each quilt is preceded by the tag that gives the name of the quiltmaker and the story behind the quilt. As before, if you pin any of these images, please give attribution to the quiltmaker.

The hand embroidered quilts always catch my eye.

Her stem stitch is so beautiful and perfect, it almost looks like machine embroidery.

And I like how she used a fancy machine stitch to quilt the sashings and cornerstones.

To my eye, the most striking quilts are black with bright colors.

The next group of quilts were made by the "featured quilter" for this show, Rita Young Kilstrom.

Pretty quilting with metallic thread.

I love the movement in this next quilt.

Do you have so many quilts you want to make that you can barely make them fast enough? That's how I feel sometimes. Recently, I purchased a slew of mini quilt patterns and this one made me want to get busy on them. So many quilts, so little time.

I purchased a whole pile of these little buttons for another mini hand embroidered quilt I want to make...and that's in addition to the above-mentioned slew of patterns.

Even though I spent a lot of time getting ready for dinner yesterday, I still had several hours to sew. The Adirondack chairs look like this now. They're getting close, and I have high hopes of finishing the quilt top today.

With that said, I think I'll get at it.

Love the Raggedy Anne and Andy redwork. I used it as a theme for my oldest, more than thirty years ago. It's too bad that it's seems to have been forgotten as a story with all the new literature available for kids these day. I love the old "stand byes" Winnie the Pooh and Holly Hobby, but I guess people now are more interested in video games, movies, and toys .

I was at the show on Sat--drove down from Renton WA--have gone to it for 3 years now I think Some very talented quilters/artists in that guild. I am hoping to be able to take a Violet Craft workshop through them.

PS, I forgot to tell you how much I like the new "shading" under the chairs. I think you're spot on

I love how the chairs are coming along! So wonderful. I love mini quilts and have a slew of patterns myself . My small group exchange Mini quilts each year. Christmas! It is very fun.

Your chairs are looking great! I have agree they look better without the "shadow fabrics" beneath them. All those tiny, detailed pieces - ay-yi-yi!!! But you did get a little practice with tiny fiddly pieces with your Wind in the Whiskers blocks, didn't you? Hahaha....

Happy Mother's Day to you, I'm glad the kids made it and you all had a good time. Thanks for the quilt pictures, I like quilt shows that have "doable" quilts.

Happy Mothers Day to you, too! THose are nice quilts. Your chairs are coming right along.

I have been helping a friend down size and pack to move. She has to be out of her house by June 26 and we just started on her sewing rooms. One room looks like a quilt shop and the closet is full of kits. Then there is another closet full of fabric and a storage room full! I am not sure we will finish in time because she has to touch every piece to decide to keep or sell!

Congradulations on your progress on "Chairs". That is an impressive piece of work.
I just loved the quilt "My Mother's Perspective" and the little buttons used as flowers.
