Green Scrap Sewing

When I got home from running errands yesterday morning, I had most of the afternoon to spend in the sewing room. It ended up being a day for digging through my green scraps. First, I made the pair of blocks for the May Block Lotto.

This month's block is a Scrappy Leaf, and we are making pairs of blocks. The goal was to use any solid, tone-on-tone print or multi-color print that was predominantly green along with any solid or print that was pastel or printed on a white, cream or light background. The blocks end up as mirror images of each other. Here's my contribution.

While I was working on those, my little pal came in and rooted around in some green of her own. She is a very messy girl.

She's become an excellent helper cat, however. Here she's rearranging this little doll quilt my grandmother made. I keep it as a cover for my light box, and she thought it could be put to better use.

When I had the block lotto pair finished, I took a walk around. The purple iris has opened all the way now, and another one has opened as well.

We're really enjoying these variegated blue iris this year. They seem to have more diversity of color patterns than we've noticed before...or maybe we're just paying better attention.

The dark purple rhododendron is very pretty right now.

After that, I went back into the sewing room to get a start on my block for this month's

The color for May is forest green with a hint of brown...like a tree in the forest. There are eight different camper blocks for the Amy Bradley "Camper" pattern I'm working from. Color aside, I decided this one would best work for me this month. Sorry for the blur...the pattern cover is blurred too.

In digging around in my green scraps, I wasn't happy with my choices. They're kind of boring, and I found myself wishing I had something a little more fun to work with. I took the design this far before quitting for the day. I suppose a green pine bough batik is about as forest green as one can get. 

There are some other more fun fabrics to complete the design, but that will have to wait for later on this afternoon.
This morning Sue and I are walking a new trail she found. We're going to walk the Camassia Natural Area located in the hills of West Linn, above the Clackamas and Willamette rivers, in Northwest Oregon. According to the website, (I've linked to it back there), it's named for the camas flower that blooms profusely during April and May. I'm not sure I'll know one even if I trip over it, but there should be plenty of wildflowers of all kinds in bloom right now. It's forecast to be a nice warm day, and so it should be a good walk.
