The Green, Green Grass of Home

The only thing that has happened in the sewing room for the past two days was the squaring up of my bee blocks in preparation for sewing them into a flimsy. It doesn't look like I'll get started on that until tomorrow. Instead, I've been outside walking and enjoying the nice weather we've had this week. The rain returned this afternoon, but that's okay. It was still nice to get out in the sunshine while it lasted.

The pictures I have for you are some things I saw on the two walks I've taken since my last blog post. They're all iPhone pictures, and so they aren't the best, but I'm still hoping you'll enjoy them. Oh yes, and Smitty got hold of my phone and started taking selfies. I'll let you decide which pictures were taken by me, and which by him. So first...yesterday's walk.

I needed to go into town for my perm yesterday...and, thank goodness that's done for another couple of months, even though I have to enjoy the stink of it for a couple of days at least. So, my walking time was limited to an hour yesterday. I've learned that it takes exactly one hour to walk to the end of the road at the bottom of my hill and back, as long as you walk at a nice brisk pace. So here's what I saw along the way: Green, green, green spring wheat. It's so pretty against that blue sky.

Do you see the lone daffodils in the lower right corner of the image below? And, honestly...how do they get there? The farmer would have plowed his field before seeding in the wheat.

Here's my favorite barn. Try to ignore the junk on the left side. As I walked by yesterday, I noticed that if you look through the window to the left of the silo, you can see through to a hole on the other side. For some reason, that thrilled me. Yes, I do live a boring life.

And this is pretty much what I saw all along the way.

On the way back, I startled these two deer, but then they were curious enough to stand still while I took their picture.

I like the camera on the iPhone, but it has a digital zoom, and so the images are too pixelated for my taste whenever I zoom in on anything. Oh well.

Back on the home front, the battle continues for the top rung of the kitty pole. Smitty was on top yesterday, but Maggie was threatening.

"I'm coming for you, Big Boy. You won't be up there for long."

Her favorite time of day is first thing in the morning when she lounges on Mike's lap.

This morning Sue and I had the opportunity to walk the Fanno Creek Trail. It's basically a paved trail through a wetlands, and it's been flooded for months. With the nice weather all week, the trail was finally dry enough to walk, and we enjoyed it. If I've said it once, I've said it a dozen times: Show me a body of water, and I'll show you some Canada geese.

Mike has noticed that allergy season is upon him, and the blooming trees are to blame. Here's one:

My allergy season hits closer to June when the grass and weeds start to bloom. For now, it's the trees, and here's an Oregon Grape beginning to bloom.

Oregon Grape is our state flower, but it's not really a grape. It's named for the purple berries it bears later in the season. Here's an image I found on the internet:

They are pretty, but bitter-tasting, and not considered edible.

When I got home today, I checked the tomatoes I planted earlier in the week and found seedlings in 7 of the ten pots. I expect the rest will be showing themselves by tomorrow. It's always exciting when they begin to germinate. Like I said...I live a boring life.

It's so boring around here that even the cats are forced to amuse themselves taking selfies.

So...that's all there is. Sewing will resume tomorrow. And laundry...just to keep it interesting, you know.

Love GREEN!!!! I noticed the same tree blooms here in south TX this week and the deciduous trees are leafing. It's super dry here, dusty and greenery doing its "Spring thing"!!!! Allergy Alert! for sure (but so nice to be warm!)

Those pictures are really gorgeous, we don't have grass lawns here so all of that green really appeals to me. Maggie's look in her eyes has softened, she's starting to relax, that's so nice to see.

It is still too soon for our trees to be budding or leafing, but that doesn't stop my allergies. When they are this bad before hand I know we are in for a bad allergy season. My sympathies to Mike.

Maggie must have "developed" your camera skills. Her selfie is terrific.

Isn't the coming of Spring to rejuvinating! I had to fly over to your side of the state last week for work and was amazed how green everything was! Looking at your kitty pictures makes me miss having a cat....or two.

Great photos. Things are starting to bud and there are lots of small green shoots in the garden. I feel that spring really is just around the corner. I knew Snitty was good with the camera but who taught Maggie how to use one?

Thanks for sharing all the green. Hope Mike has found some allergy relief. It's so pretty, it would be a shame for him to miss all of it.

Allergy's, UGG! THere may be one week all year that I do not have a problem! Trees, grass, plants, mold, mildew, dust... and so on and so on! I still want to be outside!
