Trunk Full of Quilts

Online Quilt Trunk Show | Whims And Fancies

Oh my gosh! What fun! An online trunk show sponsored by Whims and Fancies. Well, count me in! I love this idea! I've never done a trunk show of any kind before, and so I barely know where to start. The beginning is always a good place, though, don't you think?

This is the first quilt I ever made...a Nine Patch and Rail. It's such a classic design.

Many of my first quilts were traditional quilts, and one of my favorites was this Amish sampler that I call "Plain and Simple". The beautiful traditional quilting was done by my long arm quilter, Erin Davis.

I like to make derivative art quilts too, and I've made quite a few from greeting cards and other works of art when the original artists graciously gave me their permission. This one is from the original art work of Synthia St. James. I call this little quilt Celebrate! It was donated to the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative for auction.

Also this one I call Abe's Kittens that was created from the original art work of Maren Schaffner.

Oh, and I make a LOT of cat quilts. Some are applique:

Some are embroidered.

Some are embroidered AND applique. This next quilt is A Kitten's Tale by Lynette Anderson, and it's one of my favorite quilts. I learned to make yo-yo's when I made this quilt. The yo-yo's on this quilt are about the size of a nickel.

If I had to choose a style for myself, I'd say that embroidered quilts are my favorites to make.

The one above is called "A Day in the Life of Mr. Bear" and tells the story of a little girl's adventures with her teddy bear. The beautiful quilting on this one was done by Marcia Wachuta.

This was my first embroidered quilt from the pattern by Crabapple Hill Studios. I was afraid I would start it and then never finish, but it was love at first sight, I think. From then on, I was hooked on embroidery. The quilting on this one was done by long-arm quilter Tammi Ortega.

Many of my earlier quilts were quilted by others, but I've started doing my own quilts now. It's easier when you start with something small. I like to make doll quilts,

and small quilts,

and all quilts

of any kind.

So I hope you've enjoyed this little sampling of my quilts. To see more trunk shows, just head on back to the linky party at Whims and Fancies. There's lots more to see.

Lovely quilts. I like to embroider too. I need to quilt some of mine, it's a great way to show off handwork. Thanks for sharing.

How you where able to choose just a few I'll never know. You have so many gorgeous finishes it had to be hard to pick just a few. My favorite of these has to be the Crabapple Hill done in blue.

Lovely quilts, one and all!

I've made one cat quilt and it was for my sweet aunt who always had a cat during her later years. It was made of pieced cat blocks from a pattern in a book I have. I cannot remember which book it was in, but it was published before 1993 when I made the quilt.

I'm here from the trunk show and appreciate your having the Name/URL option so I can post. Thank you!
