On the Road Again

We'll be heading for home today. We packed a lot of fun into just a few days, and I think we are both ready to make the drive. We'll be traveling on some different roads this time, taking I-80 from Salt Lake City, which will take us past the Great Salt Lake. After that, we'll travel through Nevada into Southern Oregon and then north to Portland.

Before we head out, I have some pictures from our last day in Moab. We had breakfast at the Jailhouse Cafe. As I mentioned in yesterday's post, it's kind of a tradition for us. They make really good Eggs Benedict, which is Mike's favorite. I had one of their mega scrambled egg plates. Delicious and impossible to finish.

After that, the quilt shop was just around the corner. I've visited and blogged about this quilt shop before, and it's a really good one. It seems small on the outside, but there is a lot of cute stuff inside. They also carry a lot of regional fabrics and patterns from local designers, which I like when I'm traveling.

I loved the "Sewkopelli" outside the front door. So cute.

Do you want to see what he's sewing?

Want to see what brand of sewing machine he's using?

The Sewkopelli so delighted me that I had to purchase this pattern inside the store. It's a wallhanging, about five feet in length.

Cute quilting too.

And you didn't think I was walking out without some of this, did you?

And bonus: A free emory board!

After that, we headed across the street to a Red Dirt t-shirt shop I'd seen. The shirts are dyed using the red dirt from the local landscape. The man minding the store informed me that they opened their original t-shirt store on the island of Kauai in Hawaii. Hurricane Iniki left them with a warehouse full of white t-shirts dyed red and the Original Red Dirt Shirt store was born. There were quite a few with funny quotations that made us laugh. The one in the image below reminded me of a friend's husband.

So, we picked up a couple of t-shirts and then headed off down the street, stopping off at a few gift shops and galleries. Along the way I got a better picture of the windows that caught my eye when we drove in.

After that, we headed back to the RV park for some well-needed relaxation, and ended up sitting around like slugs for the rest of the afternoon. We had dinner at the Moab Brewery last night...also something of a tradition for us, when we're in Moab. They have a big menu with something for everyone. The food is delicious and served up with a helping of excellent and cheerful service despite being consistently mobbed.

So that's about it for this vacation. I'll blog along the way home if I have something even slightly interesting to say, "interesting" being a relative term. We expect to arrive home on Sunday. I'm looking forward to seeing my kitties. Our petsitter informed me a few days ago that they were doing well and that they were eating their food. That's always a good sign.

Love, love, LOVE Moab! We've been there last year, off roading to our hearts content, loving the surroundings. Would love to live there. I even go so far as listing it right next to Sedona, AZ as a favorite place.... I shopped in the quiltshop too of course.
Thanks for sharing and bringing back memories.
Enjoy the rest of the trip. Gonna follow along!!

I love the Sewkopelli, he is sewing on a Singer 66 based on your pic. They were really good machines, My Greatgrandmother had this model and it still sews. Her's was a treadle of course, in a beautiful cabinet. I can't wait for you to sew up this pattern! Looks wonderful! Safe travels I know the kitties are missing you both

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your vacations! I live on the east coast and though I have been in Oregon twice on vacation, getting to see that part of the country is pretty rare. Such a treat to see it through your eyes.

How much fun is it to see Kokopelli in a new and unusual setting; he decorates our bathroom: shower curtain, toothbrush holder, soap dish, toilet brush holder, framed descriptive information sheet. Love that flautist with the feathered headdress. Sewing a quilt too; amazing, thanks for the photos.

Enjoyed the visit to Moab.......sure the kitties will be secretly happy to see you although they may punish you for a few days and refuse to look at you.....our cat always did that!

I really like the Sewkopelli, they should make little ones to sell. Some days "Fish Fear Me, Women Want Me" seems to be on every shirt and pickup truck I see, LOL.

Looks like a fun finish to a fine holiday! That Sewkopelli is wonderful - so much detail in it. Cool!
Love the red dirt t shirts. When I was in Australia I saw lots of red dirt dyed stuff also. Somewhere in my house is a baggie full of it that I brought home with me to try to dye fabric with. I'll find it again one of these days!
