Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show 2015 (First Batch)

It's been a slow morning here at the Three Cats Ranch. Let's just pause here for a moment while I blame Smitty and Mike for my laziness. Here's how that goes: Smitty kept me awake until past midnight when he refused to show himself Saturday night. Mike was late getting home Sunday evening, which allowed me to take a late afternoon nap to make up for Smitty's naughtiness the night before. Then, I couldn't get to sleep last night because of said nap. This morning I needed another nap to make up for the lost sleep of the previous night. Okay. Did you follow all of that?

Now that I'm awake again, I have some pictures from the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show to show you. I did promise, and my father always said that a promise made is a debt unpaid. And I hate owing people, you know? So here you go. I'll start with just a few pictures of the street, and a little narrative, and then I have a few quilts for you. I can't possibly show them all in one post, so I'll be showing them over the next couple of days.

This was the 40th anniversary of this show that practically defines the town of Sisters, Oregon. Know about the quilt show and its namesake three mountains, and you know pretty much all you need to know about Sisters. Oh yes, and apparently they have a rodeo.

The weather was lovely...no rain, and not too hot. We started early, around 8:00 a.m. The two main roads through Sisters are closed off, and so there's lots of room to roam.

It's an eyeful experience, for sure. The town is blanketed (sorry) in quilts.

Before the day is over, thousands have attended this one-day quilt extravaganza that pumps some $1.7 million into the local economy.

The event really starts with an entire week of classes and events in the form of the Sisters Quilts Affair. I only just learned about that part at this show when we met up with a group of quilters who were friends of Lenelda's. They had rented a house in Bend together (six of them) in order to take classes during the week prior to the show. A good idea for next year, maybe.

There were vendors of all kinds, and I showed you some of my purchases in my post from yesterday. The items for sale were quite original, and most were affordably priced.

And don't you know that I loved the cats.

So let's get on with today's batch of quilts. I tried to take pictures of the labels to give every quilter his or her due. Nevertheless, I missed some because they were hung high over my head. Where there is a label, I will show it before its associated quilt. Hopefully, they will be legible, and remember that you can always make an image larger by simply clicking on it.

What quilter can't identify with what's included on this label:

There was an exhibit from The Undercover Quilters book group. The group chooses a book to read and then makes a quilt to represent the story. There were a dozen or so of those. I'm only showing my favorites.

I couldn't reach the label for these next two...my apologies to the quilters.

This being an outdoor quilt show, the wind had a say in how well the pictures turned out in some cases.

And what woman can't appreciate a good shoe quilt?

That's all I have for today. I'll have more for you in the days ahead.

Today I'm going to get a start quilting my Over the Moon table runner. It's a small piece, and so I might even finish it, depending on how cooperative my tension is. Today is my 5th Blogiversary, so be sure to check out my giveaway.

Seems like sunflowers are quiet popular even in quilts. Need to stock up on my yellow and orange stash me thinks.

What a great idea, using all those 'extra pieces' to make quilts with! The Sassy Shoe quiltmaker is one after your own heart - she obviously loves awesome alliteration!!
Those wooden cats are cool - at first I thought they were fabric & had to go back for a second, closer look.
Thanks for sharing your trip with us!
