Let the Whining Begin

It's not been a very productive day, although I did get some sewing done. I made the next block for the Live, Love Teach quilt. This is the original image submitted by the Olivier Family:

Here is my version, using scraps from my own stash. This one was pretty easy.

As I mentioned in my post from yesterday, this block was originally designed by Emma How, and Emma has graciously granted her permission for me to post her block.

The next block I'll make is this one from Clifford. My recollection is that Lisa tutored Clifford when he was unable to attend school following an injury.

I'm thinking I'll do a reverse applique on this, letting the lacings from the heart baseball show through from the background fabric, and then Clifford's signature will be hand embroidered.

Also today, I made a block for the Block Lotto.

This is called a Bargello 9-Patch.

I suppose technically I've already whined up above when I said I hadn't been very productive today. But I have even bigger whines to whine because after I'd finished with those blocks, I took at look at the next section of the Quiltmaker's Garden. Oh joy. Paper-piecing. Wait, did I say "Oh joy"? Because what I meant to say is...oh, never mind. I'll keep it clean. I'll be making seven little tulip blocks and three large ones. You can see them there in the top of the gazebo and down the left side.

As I look at this, I'm thinking there is still more paper-piecing to come. Oh well. I must have been in a fugue state when I decided to take this on. I suppose I can stand a little paper-piecing. After all, I did a whole bunch of "Y" seams for some earlier flower and sky blocks. Surely I can survive a little paper-piecing. Maybe. If this is my last blog post, you'll know the paper-piecing did me in.

So I still have a little time left before I need to leave for my guild meeting tonight. Maybe I'll get in a little housework just to try to squeeze a little something out of the day. How did your Monday go?

Oh I think you will survive a little paper piecing!

I am sure it will be fun and the result will be worth it!

You did well with the new retirement block. If you did y-seams, you can handle some paper piecing = do the small ones first so you get in the groove.

You can do the paper-piecing! Just try to think of it as a challenge and not be negative about it. I love the guild challenge quilt. It came out great! And I love that bird block for the Live, Love, Teach quilt.

I am about to start on a mini paper pieced project. The corner stones are 3/4 inch square!

Gack! I'm running and hiding! Oh, wait, I better grab you and bring you with me....the paper piecing monster is right behind us!
Oh, how I dread paper piecing. I'm so, so bad at it. The air in here turns blue with what I mutter, Moses runs under the chair, and even Padsworth and DragonDrop burrow under the scraps to hide.
But I bet you will do great! You are my mentor, and inspiration, and you've gotten through difficult tasks before. :)

Well let's see. You could draft templates and just piece instead of paper piecing. (Ducks and runs.)

I just don't like paper piecing although I can do it if I need to. You have my sympathy but I know you'll get through and Smitty and Gracie will be there to give their support.

Obviously you & Jacque need to take Jake Finch's class on paper piecing - "I CAN Teach You to Paper-Piece without Tears-PROMISE!". LOL I haven't done any for a while, and it always takes me a couple tried to get back into the rhythm of it. I think the small ones are easier than the bigger ones too. I'm sure you'll be fine. Although if I hear something about the skies turning "BLUER" over Oregon, I'll KNOW it's you!!

I don't love paper piecing, but it is a nice tool to have in your toolbox because some blocks just aren't going to work well otherwise. Hopefully those blocks didn't do you in, I'd really miss seeing all your pretty photos and cool Live, Love Teach blocks come to life.
