Irish Eyes are Smiling

Thanks to Cindy B. for the title of this post. After I got off the computer yesterday, I started making out my grocery list when lo and behold, I realized I didn't really need to go to the grocery store until today. And I don't know about you, but I never go grocery shopping today when I can put it off until tomorrow. So now yesterday's tomorrow is today. Did you follow that? Today, I really do have to go.

Nevertheless, the sublime realization that grocery shopping could be put off for yet another day allowed me to spend the whole day working on the Irish quilt. When Mike came home, I had borders on three sides. Then, he had some things to do in the trailer after dinner, which gave me time to sew on the fourth border. And....ta-da!

It ended up at 76 x 76 inches. It feels fantastic to have it finished, let me tell you. Of course, it still needs quilting and binding, and so there is much to do before it is truly complete. Since I spent all day on it yesterday, I have things to do around the house today and there's still a pesky trip to the grocery store on the agenda. If I have time, I'm going to make the back for this quilt, while I still have the measurements fresh in my feeble mind. I'll put off quilting it until next month. It takes me a while to work up the intestinal fortitude to take on these large long-term projects.

So, whaddaya say?

This morning I was up early to make Eggs Benedict for Mike's birthday, which is today. Eggs Benedict isn't hard to make, but stumbling around sans coffee and open eyes does make it a little more challenging. Also, it makes a wreck of your kitchen, dirtying pretty much every bowl, plate, and pan.  Here's a Throw Back Thursday image of the old man feeding chipmunks with baby Erik at Crater Lake National Park in 1980:

To be fair, I was looking a little younger in those days too:

So now, it's time to get a start on the day. Next up in the sewing room is to get caught up on the blocks for Lisa's quilt. I didn't get one finished this past weekend, and so I want to make two this week. I'll start with this one from Jeffrey:

And then I'll do this one from Lora:

These won't be difficult, but they'll take me a little bit to do all the embroidered words.

There's plenty to keep me busy for the next day or two. Thanks to all who have stopped by my Giveaway page. It's been fun reading where y'all are writing from. Welcome to the new followers! Renata, you are a no-reply blogger, and so I can't respond to your question directly. Renata asked about my birdcam. Here is the link:

However, if this picture inspired you to ask the question,

then I have to give credit to my Nikon Coolpix S9500 point and shoot. It's a great little camera. I was sitting on the patio and zoomed in close to him to get those hummers I posted a few days ago.

And I think that about covers it for today. It's a beautiful day here today. Time to get outside and enjoy it a little.

Happy belated birthday to you and a very happy birthday to Mike. I've been trying like mad to get caught up with blogs, so forgive me for not commenting on yours for a few weeks. Thanks for sharing all the pictures from the quilt show. There are some amazingly gorgeous quilts there.

Iris Doors turned out beautifully. Maybe it's not done, but getting the flimsy done is a major milestone.
