The blocks were all completed on Wednesday. On Thursday, I sewed them together:
See my zinger? I still had some size to spare, and so I added a black border.
When I'm ready to bind it, I'll give it a yellow flange and use this black and white stripe for the binding to give it some flash.
The wall-hanging size quilt includes nine house blocks. Since I only used seven of them, I used the remaining two for the back and laid them out with some of the other extra pieces. As always, Smitty helped.
When I had them in a layout I was happy with, I added a couple of yellow stripes and used some leftover fabric from the Hello Moon quilt to finish the back.
And now it just needs quilting and binding. I have until June to finish this, so I'll save the quilting for next month. It's good to have it finished in plenty of time.
You'll be sad to know that poor little Gracie had to spend last night at the vet.
We noticed her behaving a little strangely on Wednesday evening...a little out of it, shall we say. Then yesterday morning we discovered an abscess on her back. Not to blame the nearest rambunctious youngster cat, but I'm afraid Smitty might have given her a bite in one of his more aggressively playful moments. Shoot. So, off to the vet she went yesterday morning. Their plan was to start her on fluids and antibiotics and then lance and drain it today if necessary. I'm thinking it probably was necessary. I'm expecting to pick her up today sometime, but that will be after my walk with Sue. All purrs are appreciated.
Today I'm walking with Sue. When I get home, I'm going to bake those cute little mini pies in wide mouth mason jar lids. Christina Lane, the author of the book, Dessert for Two, has posted a video on her blog. I'll have to admit I had my doubts about whether one could actually bake a pie in a wide mouth mason jar lid, but her video gave me the confidence to go ahead. You can watch it right here. I'm using frozen blueberries in mine. I'm kind of excited to give this a try, and I'll let you know how it turns out. Wish me luck.

Block party is really cute. Poor Gracie I hope she gets well soon. I'm going to try out the pies in my ramekin dishes. Such a good idea to have small sized pies as I just take a larger slice with full sized pies.
oh my, poor Gracie, my puurrrayers are for her today. Hope she can come home today. Smitty needs to control his pounces on her, and no fair biting her. What a way to treat such a nice lady cat. Love the house blocks, they will look great in any house.
I look forward to hearing how you explain to Gracie that it is the victim of the bite who gets a time out at the vet, not the perpetrator. Hope she gets better quickly.
I sure hope that Gracie will be fit as a fiddle very soon. It's good that you noticed the difference right away and got her off to the vet. Purrs, prayers, and hugs!
Block party is looking wonderful. Poor Gracie. Overnights with the vet are no fun for 4-leggeds or 2-leggeds. Have a happy Easter.
I like your guild project. That thin yellow strip is perfect. Rudy sends purrayers for Gracie's quick recovery. Nothing like getting a nip from a mouth that likes mousies. When she comes home, a nap on a nice soft quilt would be just the thing.
Poor Gracie. Hope she heals quickly.
Poor Gracie! Shame on you Smitty! Love you house blocks!
Hope Gracie is feeling better soon! Love your guild project.
Poor Gracie, she looks so scared. I hope she comes home and has Daddy's lap waiting for her.
I hope Gracie is doing well. Maybe she will teach Smitty to mind his manners someday!
Hope poor Gracie does well with her vet visit. Love the progress on the guild challenge.
So sorry to hear about Gracie. Yesterday morning Tabby had some kind of seizure. She spent the day at the vet, and when she came home, she was still sedated. When she finally came out of her carrier and tried to claw her way around the house, she kept falling onto her side. So sad to watch. She's doing better today, and I hope Gracie is, too. Isn't it awful when the kitties get sick?
The block party is looking more & more fun! Love the yellow flange with the striped binding.
And for Gracie: puurrrrrrRRRRrrrRRRRRrrrrRRRRrrrrRRRRRrrrrrrRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrr
I hope Gracie is back home by now. What a fun little challenge quilt. I'm happy you found a guild with some interesting activities and challenges.
The block party looks good and so sorry that Smitty hurt poor sweet Gracie. I hope she is feeling better today.
So Sorry to hear about Graicie's ills. I know she probably dislikes the Vet office, as all of the 4 legged friends always do, but they do good work, and will get her better fast.

I know I am way behind on blogs, but I hope Gracie is doing OK now.
