Shoot for the Moon

It was supposed to be a walking morning, but my friend Sue is sick. That meant I spent the day sewing instead. (Oh well.) Today I started sewing together the blocks for the "Hello Moon" quilt...and I changed its name to "Shoot for the Moon". Surely you've heard that quotation:

And with my plan for setting these blocks, it seems appropriate. Last night, I got a short little start and laid out the first block in the design I had in mind.

Declaring it satisfactory, I continued on with it this morning. There are 12 blocks total, and I'm setting them in four rows of three blocks each. Here's the first row:

I'm using the same star template from the middle block for my cornerstones. Then I added the second row.

So...halfway there, but I was kind of tired of working on it at that point. The blocks were designed as a quilt along by April Mae Designs, but she never finished the project beyond creating the blocks.
The setting design is my own. A few people have finished their quilts, and you can see what some others have done with it at this FlickR Group.

There are still two rows to go and then I'm going to add some borders, yet to be determined depending on how far I can stretch my fabrics. I'm hoping to finish it up tomorrow, depending on my energy level for the project.

This morning I had a teeny, tiny finish. I finished the quilt that the Quilting Snowladies are working on.

Usually I save all that satin stitching for last. I think I did it first this time for no reason other than it completely fitting inside the first hooping. This is the 9th of 12 blocks. I think I'm going to miss these when they're all finished. They have been so much fun to stitch.

Also today, I made a label for the Merry and Bright quilt, just finished.

And that's been my day of sewing. I need to quit and do a few other things that are less fun. It's okay though because I think I'm about all sewn out for one day.

Yesterday's storm resulted in some heavy winds, but surprisingly little rain. There were thousands without power and some pieces of a building in downtown Portland blew off and into the 15th floor windows of another building. That must have been exciting. Here on our hill, things were pretty quiet. We never lost our power and nothing blew down or off as far as I know.

I love how you are doing your quilt, such a fun design. I also like your snow ladies, I only added a little color, yours is coming out beautifully.

Oooh! I really like the sashing & cornerstones you've done for Shoot the Moon!
You are getting quite fancy with your labels these days. On the rare occasions I finish something, I just use a pigma pen & write on the backing!
Glad you didn't have any storm problems!

I love the direction your are going with your Moon sashing. Super label! Glad you didn't get hit so badly with the storms on your coasts.

I love how you are finishing up the "you shoot the moon" quilt. I started that quilt, but somehow lost interest. Glad to hear that you made it thru the horrible west coast storms. Have a great week!

The satin stitches on your snow ladies are wonderful. I wish mine looked like that!

Shoot for the Moon is looking good, so are the snow ladies.

The star corner blocks are the perfect touch for your sashings. That little quilt is going to be spectacular. About 6 inches of snow here but at least no windstorms.

Great setting for the Moon quilt and of course that black and yellow really pops. I'm glad to hear the storm didn't come your way. I'm just reading about the shooting, horrible.

Oh I love that setting!
We are getting your storm remnants now, a chilly 45 this AM, and gray/wet.
Good day for baking!

Great setting for the Moon blocks! This quilt will measure up to your usual high level of quilting, I know. I'm sure it'll be worthy of entering in next year's fair, don't you think? And I'm glad you were safe on your hill!

I have to agree with Barb H. Your Shoot for the Moon quilt will definitely be worthy of a fair or quilt show entry. The borders are a very creative way to set the blocks.
