Harrowing

That title describes my day yesterday. Usually I'm not too much of a dental wimp...no more than anyone else, I guess. More than fear, I'm irritated at having to spend the money on something I can't even show off to anyone. Imagine the impact: Wanna see my new crown? Imagined response: Only if it's the kind that fits on your head. It's even worse than spending money for new tires...another expensive and unimpressive purchase. At least when I spend the money on tires, I don't also have nightmares following the experience of having them installed.

Let's just say that yesterday's extreme dental sport could have gone a little better...and I'm not blaming my dentist. It was just a difficult procedure. The tooth is the farthest back in my (shall we say) dainty little mouth, and he had difficulty getting it numbed up completely. Then the already-long procedure was made even longer when, during the process of making the impression of my tooth, the crown on my other tooth came off with the mold. No biggy, but it meant cementing it back on. Oy. I was seriously tempted to say, "Can we stop for today. I'll come back tomorrow...or next week...or never."

So all of that to say that I came home yesterday and pulled the covers over my head. Literally. That meant I did very little sewing, and so I don't have much to show you...unless you want to see my new temporary crown. Before pulling the covers over my head, however, I started my turkey in the oven so that we could have hot turkey sandwiches for dinner. Mike carved the turkey and made the sandwiches, since I could no longer safely operate sharp objects.

Before Mike got home, I got a small start on top-stitching the last leaf for my table runner.

That's where I'll pick it up today.

This morning I worked some more on my "Never Underestimate" piece. I'm about half finished with this now.

I'm using all scrap floss on this...bits and pieces left over from many other projects, and so occasionally I'm making up the colors as I go along...or I need to switch colors for one part or another because I've used up all the floss I had in a particular color. I imagine knitters have the same problem with accumulating excess yarn. Somehow it seems easier for me to use scrap fabric than it is to use up scraps of embroidery floss. Any thoughts?

And lucky me. With the weather turning cooler and wetter, my little buddy Smitty has decided the best place to be in the mornings is under the covers and between my legs. He snuggles next to my feet while I'm doing my morning stitching and keeps them toasty warm.

Today is a swimming day, and if I'm going, I need to get a move on. After yesterday, however, I'm thinking I might just put that off until tomorrow. It would be very nice to have a day at home. Still arguing with myself over that decision.

I'm loving your stitchery "Never Underestimate A Woman With A Sewing Machine." I have it on my to get list. I would love to know how you keep your embroidery threads organized while you are stitching. I just ordered a knitting needle gauge that I think will be perfect for this. What do you use? Thanks. Hope you are feeling better today.

Poor thing! I've been there - and looking at having more dental work done in the near future - I'm terrified! Perhaps you can find joy in knowing that it's now over :*)

I'll bet Smitty's just pretending he wants to be warm and cuddly - cats are genius at knowing when we aren't well and need them to cuddle up and love on us - he's such a good little nursemaid :) And I vote for you staying home - not a thing wrong with that on a "recovery" day.

Ohh your poor mouth--I had a similar "operation" done where they had to drill down the bone so it would fit--ouchy--I don't even want to think about it. Hope you feel better soon--You need lotsa milkshakes lol! Anyway, my idea for your lovely stitchery would be to decide which color you want to dominate and buy a skein of that for the sewing machine...hugs, Julierose P.S. my choice would be blue, but then I LOVE blue...

So sorry to hear about your dental torture... that is always miserable to endure.
Glad you have some hand stitching to help keep your mind off the pain... this project is looking fantastic!

You poor thing! I am not a lover of the dentist's chair, either, for many of the reasons you outline. Its just not fun! I fully support your decision to climb under the covers to recover. Good on Smitty for recognising the BEST place to be - aren't our furry friends good at that? What beautiful purple fabrics you got to work with on your leaf project. I do like the close up pic. Purple is resonating with me at the moment for some reason. There's a sort of zingy comfort about it, like lavender plants - the cooling green of the leaves and then the perky purple tops and the glorious fragrance. I hope your week gets better. Be kind to yourself - its ok. x

I hate the dentist no matter what the procedure. My furries were snugglers while we had an early morning downpour (buckets) and then they disappeared into the fields to go catch mice.

So sorry about your dental work, been there, done that, got the t-shirt...and the bill. Speaking about the embroidery floss, you may flip when I say this but that is one thing I do not keep scraps of. When I'm working on a project and I'm through with that color, any pieces get thrown away. I keep all my floss wound on floss cards, in numerical order, in containers made for that purpose. I love organization!

Dentistry, one of the necessary evils of life. Great idea using your floss scraps - just don't confuse it with the dental floss ;p
I love when a kitty gets all snuggly at my toes - lucky you!

Well at least it's all done and you don't have to go back to the dentist. Love the stitchery. What a great way to use up left over floss.

I had to have a root canal several years ago. I was at that point and so was the dentist, but er made it through. He called me the next day, a Saturday, to check on me. He admitted that he was as exhausted as I was,

Well, *I* would look at your new crown, even if it wasn't on top of your head! So there. But after that kind of numbing, I usually feel wiped out too, so under the covers was an excellent choice.
I really like the way "Never Underestimate..." is working up. Since I don't do much embroidery, don't have dribs & drabs of that, but I do use up my yarn scraps making Happy Bowls.
