Blocks are Quilted

This weekend's sewing time has been devoted to ticking off the blocks for Joseph's Quilt one at a time. My goal has been to make each one look a little different, since each block is different. It's been a challenge coming up with and stitching so many different designs.

And it's been good practice.

Some of them are more imaginative than others, obviously. Even though each block has a pattern, it's sometimes difficult to discern.

The one below was supposed to look more flower-like, but it ended up looking like a flaming spiral. I'm okay with that.

The designs that require me to hit a corner accurately are the most challenging.

I couldn't decide what to do with this next one, and so I just started out with a vine emanating from the center. When I had the white half of the split star completed, I decided to make the other half more of a Spring vine...with leaves. I kind of like how this one turned out.

With the blocks completed, I need to turn my attention to the setting triangles and the two borders. I decided to do these radiating triangles in the setting triangles. It means starting at the top of the triangle and cutting thread when each one is complete.

I'm going to stick with that same wavy line for the blue/green/purple stop border, and then do a square stipple in the outer purple polka dot border. Knowing what to do is half the battle for me.

Also today, I finally got back to doing some embroidery. I last worked on this piece before my trip to Tacoma. I took it with me to Tacoma, but didn't work on it at all, and I haven't worked on it since I've been back. The numbers in the center are completed now, and I've started working my way around the outside of the route sign.

And that pretty much covers what I've accomplished today.

I still need to water the pots and check on the tomatoes, and I have one more housekeeping chore to catch up on for the weekend. Guess I'll get to it.

You have been blasting through all the FMQ! I like the split star, the quilting gives it a sort of winter/spring effect.

Well started on the Route 66 block. For some reason, I looked at it & the theme song "77 Sunset Strip" started playing in my mind. Strange place, my mind.

It turned out just great! I'm glad that you have fun doing it. I'm thinking about trying my hand at embroidery since I enjoy hand work.

I approach my sampler quilts in much the same way when it comes to the quilting. Each block is quilted differently and I like how it turns out. Also good practice. Your quilting looks wonderful. Sew on.

I particularly like the quilting with branches and leaves.
