A Day in the Life of Gracie

Good morning. Gracie here. I just want to take this time to thank all of you who have come to my defense about my scant appearances on the blog. My mom likes to make the excuse that I, Gracie, do nothing but sleep, and that simply is not true.

Actually, I have a rich social life. My mornings always start out with kitty treats.

And speaking of kitty treats, I like to watch the hummingbirds from this window. I've never actually caught a hummingbird. That would require a lot of fuss and jumping and such. A dignified lady cat like myself does not fuss over little things like hummingbirds.

Then I retire to the cat-brushing place where I allow my dad to brush my furs for exactly 100 strokes.

Don't forget my chin.

A little to the right, if you please.

Once my furs are all brushed and glistening, I retire to the place where my mom sleeps at night. Her side of the bed is the best.

Only...she usually wants to pull up the sheets and make the bed, which ruins everything. After that, I retire to my purrsonal chair in her office for my daily nap. "Daily" as in "all day". Yes, a cat needs her beauty sleep.

Usually in the afternoon, we go outside for a while. I have to stay under this chair at first because...

you know...THAT. He always gets so excited when I come outside that he jumps on me and bites my neck...

which makes me sooooooooooooooo mad! My mom says we all have a shadow self, and his antics really bring out mine.

Here, you can see my mom's and Smitty's shadow selves. You know, there's an expression that goes something like, "All hat and no cattle". I'm here to tell you that Smitty is "All shadow and no cat."

And here's a prime example of what I'm talking about.

Enough said, I think.

Once I'm sure the coast is clear, I drink from my outside water dish. This is my favorite place to drink on a hot day.

And after my mom and dad have their dinner, we go downstairs, where I nap on my dad's lap.

My dad is my favorite person in the whole wide world.

So I'll leave it to you, my dear cat fans. Do you think that I don't do anything but sleep? I'd say my days are filled with adventure. By adventure, I'm referring to the dignified kind.

Gracie, you are a gal after my own heart, having the same kinds of adventures I tend to have, except for my not having anyone to nap on top of (sigh). We live on the wild side.

Looks to me like you know exactly how to spend a great day with a nice mix of food, family, personal hygiene, snoozing and bird watching. Purrfect!

Gracie, you sound like you could be my new bestest friend, though you're still a young whipper-snappette compared to my 17 years! I only venture outside on sunny warm days, to warm my tummy on the deck right next to the door. Love, Shyloe

Gracie all your beauty rest is working and the brushing has made you so shiny. If you need a bird, I think it should be Smitty's job to bring you one. Sweet adventures in your dreams.

Yeah for Gracie, I guess someone that beautiful really doesn't need to be a camera hog.

Thank you for telling us about your day, Gracie. You seem to have a full and wonderful life. Be honest, you really like Smitty, don't you?

Gracie, you are adorable. I would love your adventurous and dignified life. I particularly like the picture of you under the chair but I like all the pictures of you. Barbara, those quilts are terrific. I may have accidentally (read that as did so deliberately and with gay abandon even though I already have 17 other projects on the go and many more not yet started) signed up for a BOM called Winter in Tuscany. Lots of little houses and trees. In fact, its a combination of embroidery and appliqué and I was so inspired by some of your creations that I thought I'd give it a go. So technically, its your fault but I couldn't be happier. When I get to it, I promise to post pictures. I am away in Singapore right now and it is ridiculously hot. I don't know how people quilt here. The heat is zapping my creativity. Perhaps I just need to acclimatise but, from a weather perspective, I am looking forward to heading back to winter in NZ at the end of the week!

Gracie you are such a beautiful girl! I know that young guy bugs you sometimes but he does keep life interesting doesn't he? Keep being your wonderful self and smack that Smitty if he gets out of hand! It is your job to keep him all contained, as the Elder cat.

Gracie, you are a normal kitty! WE do most of those things, too. You are right, Mom's side of the bed before she pulls the sheets up is the best nap place!

You go girl! Those humans are just jealous of your lifestyle, Humph...sleep all day. Silly humans I say!

Thank you Gracie for allowing us mere humans a glimpse into your life. I'm glad your Dad takes such good care in brushing you. Good thing he can count all the way to 100! You are gorgeous as usual in all the photos. :)

Thank you for writing such a lovely post Gracie. I'm sure that pesky Smitty is always trying to mess up your purrfectly planned days but being a lady, you surely know how to deal with him purrroperly.

Gracie makes me think of a gracious southern belle. Lots of charm with just a bit of sass.
