One Down, Two to Go

We thought the weather might clear up today and that we could get out for a walk. Well, clear until about 8:00 a.m., maybe. Then it clouded over and started raining again. We could still go for a walk, I suppose, but the whole point was to get out into the sunlight. Somehow, walking isn't as inviting in the rain. Nothing to do but sew I guess! Boo Hoo!!

But before I did any quilting, I did some more work on the Quilting Snowlady's outfit. I think she looks divine in her purple hat! She may be a member of the "Purple Hat Society".

Then Smitty and I decided to retire to the sewing room to do some quilting.

He knows his place in this process.

I got to work quilting one of the three quilt sandwiches I made yesterday. First up was "We're On a Roll". I started by top-stitching all the applique pieces.

And I stitched in the seams on the empty roll.

I used a variegated thread to stitch a spiral around the roll end, suggesting the layers of rolled paper.

Then I did a sort of stylized swirl to fill in the blocks around the rolls.

I used one of the fancy stitches on my sewing machine to stitch the narrow green border.

And the same stylized swirl in the outer border.

And then, I sewed on the binding.

Except for hand-stitching the binding, this one is finished!

So I'll spend the rest of my sewing time today hand-stitching the binding and attaching some kind of hanger. This quilt is 16 x 37 inches, and so I think I can just use the ring pulls from pop cans for hangers. It's going to hang in my main bathroom.

Tomorrow I'm still deciding whether to sew together the "Rose is a Rose is a Rose" wall hanging. I'm kind of dragging my feet on this one.

If I can't work up the energy for that, I'll make the next block for the Folk Art Cats quilt. I think my next block is the one on the left side, second row.

Are you doing any sewing today?

Your T/P wallhanging is just too cute - think every bathroom needs one of those. I did up Kevin's QOV blocks and then my ugly FQ challenge piece for my quilt guild.

I love how you stitched around the roll with variegated thread, really fun. No quilting for me, spending my time trying to figure out how to fix my blog template to get the middle section out.

no sewing for me, we are moving all the crap around in the patio room to put the boxes already packed up for the move. Found 2 boxes that say "Quit books" and I have no idea what is inside because it's my dh's writing. Found lots of fabrics and misc. stuff. OH MY! I didn't realize that I had so much stuff. Maybe tomorrow I can quilt my doll quilt, add the binding and get it ready to mail to you.

On a roll came out really great. I like the stitch in the green. I think I finally got all the cutting done on my niece's quilt today. Still have to sew about 30 blocks before I can lay them out.

Love the snowlady's patchwork jacket!
I have a friend who wants to make that toilet paper quilt. She has the pattern, but hasn't started...I will send her your link. It turned out great!

Doesn't using your walking foot count as "going for a walk"? I think it does! Love the stylized swirl you used - another fine job!!!

The Snow Lady is lookin' mighty fine in her purple hat, for sure.

Glad to see that Smitty is on the job too. :)

YAY!!! a nice finish. You know what they say tho... no job is finished until the paperwork is done ...uhmm i mean binding. haha

I dream of being able to create with thread like you do! Just wonderful.

Your quilting has improved by leaps and bounds! You have done a fantastic job on the TP quilt. The Snow Ladies are coming along nicely. Me? I am almost finished with one pillow sham and about ⅓ through a second. The huge piping takes a lot of time in each stage. They are looking great, though.

Give Smitzter and Gracie some love for me.

I love your little TP quilt. My bathroom looks so bare I may have to do something about it! Your snowlady looks elegant in her purple hat.

I like the person who said using your walking foot should count for walking....I agree. Today was the first really pretty day we've had, and YAY!!! We did get to walk. Now if we can keep it up and get to jogging. Oy. Why do I like eating so much.
