Stitches in Bloom Quilt Show: Part One

This morning I've been at the computer several hours already, and so I'm just going to get you started with a few of the quilts from the quilt show. These were some of my favorites. Some of them are going to appear askew as you look at them, I'm afraid. My biggest gripe about this wonderful show is that the venue is much too small for all the vendors and quilts. It's a shame, really, because I love the show; but man, the crowd and jostling is enough to do a person in. Whining aside, here are a few of my favorites:

The next one was a wall-hanging that was heavily embellished with hot fix crystals. Sometimes I think too many crystals can make a quilt look gaudy, but it was very effective on this one, suggesting the shimmer of dragonflies in the sunlight:

For you Rainbow Scrappers:

This next one is such a simple design, but very pleasing to the eye. Sue and I both liked it. Only the white squares have been quilted with a simple stipple.

Another wall-hanging...love the colors.

The shading on this next one was so effective, it gave the appearance of three dimensions:

I think this might have been my favorite quilt in the show. It is a large bed-sized quilt of Wizard Island in Crater Lake National Park, in Oregon:

Just for grins, here's an image I took of Wizard Island when we visited back in 2010. Didn't this quilter do a good job interpeting it?

I loved this next one. The napkins were three-dimensional:

As I looked at the quilts in this show, I realized I could do some of these designs using the techniques I learned in the workshop. It's so exciting to have some new tools to work with! This could be a wall-hanging or a table runner:

Remember the whining I did that next year's workshop is a five-day workshop? Well, I learned the day of the show that there will also be a three-day workshop featuring instructor Patti Hempen. If you click on her name, you can see more of her work. The quilt below was hers, and on display at the show:

This looks like great fun to me, and so I'm almost certainly going to sign up for her "Rainbow Garden" workshop next year.

I'll have more quilts to show you tomorrow, but for today, I'm ready to get off the computer and give my neck a rest. Oh, and stay tuned, because I'll have a little giveaway coming up in a few days...just a little something I picked up at the show as a thank you for all your support and encouragement while I attended the workshop this past week.

Lots of gorgeous quilts. Though the art quilts are amazing, I really like seeing the more simple pieced ones. Thanks for sharing.

That first one is amazingly beautiful! I like the wonky photo for the rainbow scrappers, at least on my computer when I scroll down, it looks as if it's moving. It's really cool! By far my favorite is the white flower. The last one is also very, very pretty. It must have taken a lot of work to make these. Beautiful.

I love the one of Wizards Island. I've been there before and enjoyed looking out at it. It was many, many years ago (and to age myself), we were on our way to the Worlds Fair in Seattle Washington. OMG!!! The quilts you have shared with us are amazing to say the least, looking forward to seeing more. I'm so glad you have found another class to take next year that speaks to you. That's the next step in growing as a quilter, have a fun time.

While attending a quilt show last summer one of the vendors was selling kits for a Christmas quilt embellished with hot crystals. I'm kicking myself that I didn't buy it. It was beautiful.

The rainbow quilt is really pretty with all of the bright colors.

Love the Wizard Island one. It looks just like I remember it! They are all very pretty. I can see why you want to take that class!

On a side note: What is up with your blog The wallpaper and all of your side bars are all Photobucket!

I do love a quilt show and since we don't have any on at the moment, it is nice to share yours. My favourite is the huge flower. That really jumped off the screen for me. Can't wait till tomorrow.

Thanks for the peek at the show I was hoping you would have time to show us a few of the quilts. I LOVE the white poppy on the pieced background. How great that you're already thinking of ways to use your new found skills.

I just love the quilt with the large white flower! The shading was just out of this world! I like the one of Wizard Island and the picnic. Thanks for sharing!

Wow what a lovely selection of quilts you chose to show us. I love the Wizards Island one the most but they are all beautiful. The workshop this year must have really been special for you to be thinking about/planning for next year. Having seen some of Patti Hampen's work if I was over there I'd be signing up in a flash.

Oh my goodness the show certainly was a treat for the eyes. I'm looking forward to what you create from your workshop experience, I know it will be stunning. Can't stop thinking about that Wizard Island quilt. It was very dynamic.

It looks like it was a great show. Glad you enjoyed your class! Rainbow Garden looks like a lot of fun. I almost missed the kitties sitting on the fence, they make it even more fun!

My favourites are the first one and the last one. Such colour! I am inspired to create something, now! And I am so glad you enjoyed your workshop. Do you feel inspired and rejuvenated for having gone away and immersed yourself in the experience?

Wow! Sitting here at work - I've been here about 1-1/2 hours & answered 2 calls (really child? You think the admissions office is staffed on a SUNDAY?) - how can I stand the hecticness of it all?? By taking in a quilt show via Cat Patches! Hooray!!
I think that you & I have similar tastes in quilts. I never knew that crabs enjoyed wine & grapes, did you?

You chose some lovely quilts to take pictures of and share. I agree it is a very small venue. It wasn't very bad when we went early, but as the day wore on, it was insane.

I really like that "hashtag" quilt (the 4th photo)!!! It would be something I would do. The others are exquisite!! The landscape interpretations are astonishing! Thanks for sharing. I look forward to your next installment! Hugs..........

Ooooo - thanks for the quilt show!!! I love so many of these quilts, I could never choose a favorite. But if I had to choose - you know, a life-or-death situation? - then it would be the gorgeous white flower on the blue& green squares - AWESOME!!! I definitely think you should sign up for next year - love those Rainbow Garden flowers :)

I'm so glad you enjoyed the experience even with the venue too small. I love all the quilts that you featured and I can't wait to see more.

I think one of the things I really like about quilt shows is the variety. Thanks for sharing this variety. That Rainbow Flower garden quilt looks very interesting.
