Bright and Sunny Day

It was a lovely day today from sunrise to sunset. I took a break from the sewing machine today. For some reason, free motion quilting is a little hard on my left wrist. No doubt, the last time I did such intensive free motion quilting, I was whining about my right wrist. Either way, my left wrist was bothering me, and so it seemed a good enough reason to just relax today.

I did get a good start on hand-sewing the binding...as a righty, that didn't bother me. I'm about half way around it now. Sorry for the blur in this image. Do not attempt to adjust your fashion eyewear. I was trying to take the picture without flash.

When I'd had quite enough of that, I decided to go for a walk. With today's walk, I managed to get in three days of exercise this week from my goal of four. I give myself a "B" for the week. Here are some things I saw on my walk.

Wild holly:

There are quite a few holly farms in the area, and we end up with wild holly everywhere. The birds carry the seeds and drop them, and voila! Holly springs up. Here's one of my more paranoid neighbors:

I can never approach the llamas. They always run off.

When I set off, I had in mind this clearing as my turn-around point. We were luckier than our lowland neighbors again today. They were socked in with thick cloud cover while those of us who live on the ridge enjoyed blazing sunshine. It does make for a pretty picture.

On my way back, I noticed Mt. Adams to the north.

While I was snapping that picture of Mt. Adams, one of my friendlier neighbors approached the fence, looking for a handout no doubt.

The ferns and the holly are the only green things growing right now. I love seeing the sun shine through the ferns.

When I saw the ferns, I was minutes from home.

As I'm writing this, I'm just waiting for some chicken pot pie filling to cool so that I can put a crust on it. It takes quite a while to make the filling, but it makes enough for four meals. We'll each have one for dinner, and then I'll leave two in the fridge for Mike to eat when I'm gone next week. Can't come home to a husband starved to death, now can I? I mean, who would feed the kitties?

So that's my day. Tomorrow we're going to make a drive over to the Oregon Garden in Silverton to drop off my quilt for the show. We're hoping for another sunny day.

What did you do today?

Oh, I do love your outdoor walking photos. The llama has a very pretty face but beware....I hear they spit! just like camels. I would prefer to pat the horse. Happy Weekend

Holly always makes me smile...of course, there was lots to make me smile in this post ... llamas (especially ones that look rather British), mountain views, fern fronds, and husbands feeding kitties...what, you mean Smitty won't be going with you?!?! LOL! :)

Love the photos! Especially the holly. The view of the fog in the valley (minus the mountain in the background) is the same as ours in the Spring and later Summer/Fall. I so love ridge living!!! Even at this moment when a mini-blizzard is in progress and traveling is extremely hazardess/not recommended. Gorgeous "walk about" I would say!!!! Have a great drive!!!!!!!!! Hugs...........

Barbara, so jealous that you got sunshine! I am one of those lowland dwellers who has forgotten there is a sun over the past couple weeks. Nothing but fog. Hey, the Oregon upside: at least it's not raining.
Two things: (1) your neighbor is an alpaca, the smaller, skittish version of a llama; llamas are often aggressive, and sometimes used to guard the alpacas. (2) have you seen the alternative 13th block for the Hello Moon quilt? I saw two versions, over at whatahootquilts and redletterquilts. Just thought you might have a look-see. I am totally replacing the fox with the cow.

Pretty pictures. And would you be willing to share your chicken pot pie recipe? I have yet to find a good one. Of course, of course you need to keep Mike's tummy happy so that he'll feel the felines. Wouldn't want the kitties to nibble on the chicken pot pies instead.

Looks like you are very close to a finish. The binding looks great.

Fun photos from your walk. It's been too windy here to walk, you more or less get blown down the street!

Chicken pot pie is one of my favorite meals of all time; good on you for making it and getting four pies out of one batch is superb. I bet my sister/friend, Phyllis in Ontario, makes this delectable item too. Do you make your own crust? Another skill I have yet to master... You are such a good role model.

What a lovely day for a walk & photo shoot! I laughed when you said the llamas (or alpacas) run when you walk up - that's what happened when my sister Nancy & I were trying for some cow pictures. Whenever she walked up, they turned & ran...but they just stood & stared at me!
