Some Quick Quilting

Today I was able to do all the quilting for the Heart of the Home table runner. It wasn't my expectation that I would finish it today, but it worked out that way. I wasn't kidding when I said I was going to sew my guts out. I used a cookie cutter as a template and first quilted some hearts with contrasting thread.

Then I did some straight-line quilting in the pieced hearts.

Then I did a heart-spiral stipple in the white portions of the quilt. This is a design from Leah Day's website. It's pretty hard to see it in this image, and so I've messed with the contrast and lighting to try to make it show up more...without much success.

And here's the quilted table runner reading for binding!

Here's how it looks from the back:

This pattern appeared in the January/February 2013 issue of McCall's Quilting. If you like that pieced heart block, you can find the free instructions right here.

The only thing left to do on this is to bind it. I'll be using that same red rose batik fabric for that. Since it's just a table runner, I should easily be able to finish that up tomorrow, and that will be my 22nd finished quilt this year! In fairness, many of those are doll quilts, but there are plenty of larger quilts as well. It's a nice way to end 2013, don't you think? And I'll have this pretty table runner for Valentine's Day.

Anything going on in your sewing room today?

It's lovely, and no matter what size they are, that is an impressive number of finishes!

A lovely finish for the year.

Congrats on such a pretty finish. You had a really good year, even if some of the finishes were small projects.

It turned out wonderfully! I like that you did the heart quilting in the red thread & the rest sinks into the background.

I didn't do much today - read some, then visited with my friend Marilyn. We also were able to finally unload my car - the ladies that had been doing the door prizes & raffle baskets at guild "retired" this month, and brought the stuff to the meeting for me to take. Filled up the way back & the back seat of my HHR & has been there since the 12th! Marilyn owns a print shop & offered to store it there until we get some new volunteers. Good thing - since I live in a mobile home, I have no garage & the inside already looks like I'm aiming to star in an episode of Hoarders soon. sigh.
With luck, the plumber will be here tomorrow so I'll have water again. (I think you saw that story on fbook) What a pain to have to go outside to turn the water on to re-fill the toilets, then turn it back off again. I will be looking forward to hot water & using my own shower again! lol I think tomorrow I'll work on a couple of eyeglass cases that my Aunt has commissioned. I think they'll be pretty easy - cotton outside & flannel inside. Wish me luck!

The runner looks beautiful and congratulations on so many finished quilts. I might pop over and check out the pattern as I don't have a valentine table runner.
