It was a productive weekend in my sewing room. I have almost all the blocks made for my Good Morning quilt. This is the set I was working on when I quit yesterday, which makes for seven sets:
It was hazy that day too, but not as hazy as it was today. All the leaves are off the vines now too, so it wasn't nearly as picturesque. Still, Oregon wine country is beautiful, and I didn't want to miss an opportunity to post pictures of it, even if they weren't taken today.
Tomorrow I'm going to finish up the last two sets of blocks for the Good Morning quilt, and then I'm going to spend the rest of the day making cranberry pepper jelly and cranberry chutney. Now that I have everything I need, I'm ready to get going on both. The cranberry chutney will be canned and processed, and so it will be good for giving as gifts.
It's a busy week ahead. Are you ready?
Here is the eighth set:

I have two more sets to make from these strips of fabric.
I should have time to finish the last of them tomorrow, and then I'll probably set that project aside for a while. I want to devote the rest of November to working on the first Wind in the Whiskers block. It's been sitting right where I left it for months. It is the most intimidating applique project I've ever worked on.
When I last worked on it, this was as far as I'd taken it. And these pieces aren't even fused down yet.
The bird has a whole bunch of little pieces, and I finally decided I needed to invest in the recommended pressing sheet before I could continue.
The pressing sheet will allow me to construct the bird (and other pieces like this) so that the bird pieces will fuse to one another, but not to the pressing sheet. Then, if all goes as advertised, I should be able to peel the whole bird up and fuse it to the quilt background.
So now I have no more excuses other than extreme timidity. It'll be a good project to work on in the small bits of time I'll have over the next week in between preparing a Thanksgiving feast. Mae is doing quite a bit of the work this year, and so my load has been significantly lightened. Between the two of us, we are going to have fun.
Today we went to two of the local wineries where we are members to pick up wine shipments. It wasn't a good day for taking pictures because the wind has died down and there is wood smoke in the air, making it very hazy. If the air were clearer (and the season a little earlier), this is what it would look like at the Sokol-Blosser Winery.
The other winery we visited today was Domaine Drouhin. Here is a picture I took of it, probably the same day I took the one above.

Love how that is coming out, my favorite block. I can't wait to try some fusible appliqué so I can do more detail, will see how it works out, lol.

The blocks look great. Have a happy Thanksgiving.
Your blocks are coming along just great. I'm looking forward to seeing how you do the first Wind in the Whiskers block. I only got the first block.
I've been trying to figure out my favorite block and I'm at a standstill! I'm leaning towards the 10th but then I saw these little bugs, so cute. The applique is coming out so well. It must take a lot of concentration.
Now you've got me, after seeing these blocks and the fabric you're using I think I need to make one of these quilts.
Oh I love the fabrics in your first photos-that will be a pretty quilt.
I am anxious to see your applique finish-her patterns are always so amazing but I have been too intimidated by most of them too. I did use one block pf hers with bears and berries that I used wool and some hand dyes that I did-I am still working on my piece-almost finished.

Love the blocks, it's going to be a very pretty quilt. That appliqué pattern looks fabulous. Good luck with getting the bird put together.
I would be totally intimidated by the Wind in the Whiskers--but it will be so adorable when finished!
You are totally "back in business" now! I love these blocks that you are making.
I see that color 10 does not have the large floral! Will it feel left out? haha. I have not started Wind, at all! Good luck with it!
You're making amazing progress on the Good Morning quilt. I'm piecing BOMs, finishing up bears and making pumpkin scones tonight. The Chef is in.
The blocks are great, so is your applique quilt. Happy Thanksgiving, Barbara!
I just used one of those pressing sheets for the first time, last month. It was awesome! I learned about it in the beginner machine applique class I took. I don't know how people fuse multiple pieces without one!
Great to see the blocks continue to grow.
The photos of the wineries are lovely. It certainly is a very pretty area.
You are a sewing fiend these last few days!
Wind in the Whiskers is a McKenna Ryan pattern, isn't it? Hers are always so detailed! You will do fine on it, I know it. And the pressing sheet will help - that's how I did the bird on my Golden Gate Fly-by quilt.
