A Woman's Prerogative

Today I've changed my mind about pretty much everything. To be fair, Mike started it. We were supposed to go up to Tacoma on Tuesday to finally pick up the camper we purchased before he got sick. Then, he called the guy this morning and found out that the guy's guy wasn't there on Tuesday. Apparently the guy's guy has to be there to instruct us on the proper loading/unloading/usage of the camper before we can drive it off the lot. So, it was really the guy's fault. I'm not sure which guy, but one of them. And it doesn't really matter because whoever started this totally threw my whole week into a mess. And just let me tell you that this quilting/cooking/housekeeper/cat woman job is pretty darned set in stone, and so it isn't easy for me to shift gears.

Unless, of course, my plan is to work out. Then, it gets a little squishier. But then, you knew I wouldn't work out today, didn't you? You probably guffawed when you read of my plans in yesterday's post. I could hear you laughing all the way from here.

Well, I'm going back to blaming the guy because that is exactly what caused this change of plans. Actually, I prefer going to the pool on Tuesdays and Thursdays because it's less busy. I was only planning to go on Monday because we were going to Tacoma on Tuesday. But now that we're not going to Tacoma on Tuesday, I can go swimming on Tuesday. And besides, Veteran's Day and everything. I realize I'm using an awful lot of words here to explain something simple. That's what one does when one makes excuses. Using lots of words confuses people, and they forget that you're making excuses for your shortcomings.

But that's okay because I made up for not working out by baking these Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls. Makes sense, right? Don't work out, bake something fattening. I knew you'd see it my way. I used the recipe I found on Taste and Tell. I was a little worried about them because the dough was very soft and sticky, which made it hard to work with. Still, I just now took them out of the oven, and they're looking pretty good.

And they're smelling absolutely heavenly. And I figure, they have a can of pumpkin, so it's really sort of like eating a vegetable, right? I'm so glad we agree on so many things.

They still need to cool and then, I'll frost them. Sort of makes me want to go to bed right away so I can get up and have one for breakfast in the morning. On the other hand, one for dessert tonight will work just fine. As I said, I'm doing penance for not working out today.

And that's about all I did today. I had to make a quick trip to the grocery store. I went grocery shopping right before Mike got sick, and then didn't use some of the perishable ingredients. Those sort of went bad, and so I needed to replenish some things so that I can continue on with my planned menu of two weeks ago. I was going to start on the next door of the Doors of Ireland quilt, but then, I wasn't happy with the fabric I had chosen for the wall.

So I changed my mind about that and went in search of a better fabric, which I found at Quilter's Warehouse. This is what I selected:

It's a pretty good likeness, don't you think? It's much better than the one I had pulled from my stash. Now I have to wait for it to arrive. That means I'll start on the next Folk Art Cat, another project that's been languishing in my sewing room for a long time.

I haven't worked on this for so long that I can't remember where I left off. I think I'm doing the block in the upper left-hand corner, but it might be the middle one of the top row.

So here's the other thing I changed my mind about today. Have you heard that the Blog Hop Party with Giveaways is coming up on the 21st of November? I mentioned last week that I was planning to hold a giveaway generously sponsored by Classic Metal Company. Now that I know about the party, I'm going to hold off until then.

Blog Hop Party with Give-Aways

So how did you exercise your prerogative today? And, hey, if I'm exercising my prerogative to change my mind, then maybe I can count that as a workout after all! I knew you'd see it my way. That's why we're friends.

Best laid plans and all that...The only way I can make sure I do "work out" is to make it fun or social or both. Walking with friends and group classes at the Y are what works for me. The added pressure of knowing that others are waiting on me helps keep me motivated. The exercise really does help with the arthritis pain in my knees and back.

I'm so glad Mike is better! Love all your projects. You have inspired me to keep working on my quilting. Take care.

I just wanted to say thanks for the laughs! I really enjoyed this post, and it was just what I needed after a stressful day. Hmmm, maybe it was stressful because hubby dragged me to the fitness center at 5:30 in the morning. Then, on the way home I decided to see if I still remembered how to jog--though I always say slog--that's the contraction of slow+jog. There is a neighborhood 5K coming up in a few weeks, and I haven't run since I broke my ankle 2 1/2 years ago. I'll have you know that I made it past 10 mailboxes! But, then our yards here are very small, so that wasn't really very far, and hubby pointed out that the portion where I made my slog was all downhill. But, I say I should still get credit for it. After all, it was 10 mailboxes all on one side of the street--it's not like I counted the ones on both sides or anything to get to 10. Tomorrow I might try for 11. At this rate I should be ready for a 5K in 2019 or so.

There are a lot of different ways to work out you know! And today you have already had to work out how to make pumpkin scrolls, you had to work out what to get from the grocery store, you had to work out which new fabric to use for your next door, then you had to work out where you left off in your folk art cat quilt, and then you had to work out when to hold your giveaway! Add all those work outs to you prerogative exercising and you must be exhausted!!

You totally worked your mind - and that counts in my book. My day was spent playing with glue and glitter - which is all over the house - but Moe looks terrific with sparkles!

I have no idea what to say since your use of lots of words worked. So here's to the guys who made us both work our brains. You did remind me that I need to get pumpkin and make lots of dog biscuits , so thanks.

I'm so happy, life is back to normal, one of your long posts with lots of excuses and I can't stop giggling. I was going to work out today but I decided I needed to clean the whole house first and sort my fabric and bake and walk the dog and read my new book and cuddle the cat and a million other things. Maybe on Thursday.......

Oh Barbara! Thanks for giving me a laugh. Your wordy words worked a treat because confusion reigned and I had to reread the post, which gave me another laugh. And then I read the comments left by Glenda and SoozeM and they undid me too! Still chuckling.

The pumpkin cinnamon rolls look like something I could gobble (haha -it just came to me) up. Yea, one would think/hope that pumpkin is in the veg family but unfortunately its more of a starch. In the same group as corn and peas.... Oh well.

Love the fabric you chose. It's perfect.

Also have briefly seen your bird pics. They are fabulous. My life has been crazy here as there was a death in the family. Funeral is over and hopefully life will get back to some sense of normalcy soon.

Hope your knee is a little better.

Had to come back and mention this - as I wrote my last comment - I had a foster kitten sitting on each shoulder! Two little 8-week-old orange tabbys. Funny, huh?

"exercising [your] perogative" = exercising. Of course it does. Thanks for the chuckle for the day.

'Preparing' for that drive to pick up that camper is enough of a 'work out'. You must 'feed' your exhaustion. It's also hard work to find just the right fabric, too. More exhaustion that needs feeding.

It must have been a workout to roll out that dough so that counts and lifting that heavy pan of rolls in and out of the oven, well ... You see you really have been getting in your exercise after all. Thanks for the smile.

I to hate it when you have plans and they get changed. But it does look like you used your time wisely, the cinnamon rolls look delicious. Have a great day :)

My plans are long gone and shot to heck, no way can I catch up now, so going to give up and just enjoy the season.

Love the stone fabric, nice for your art pieces and you must finish the kitty quilt, that is so cute.

First of all, you did NOT hear me laughing. I was only smiling gently. I don't make many plans for myself, so I don't have to make excuses for not following them very often. A committee I'm on DID make some plans and then one member threw a wrench into them, so I have gotten to exercise holding my temper and being patient, both of which are more of a work out than I really wanted. It would have been easier to walk the three miles I should have walked instead. I love your new wall fabric -- you will be glad you held out for it, I think!

Well, I didn't laugh before, but you sure had me giggling now...you and I need to be next door enablers, er neighbors. I'd be agreeing with you about the workouts (or lack of them) and helping you nom pumpkin rolls (I'm drooling just imagining them). And then the next day I'd invite you over for pecan pumpkin bread, and we'd do more penance. LOL

Your Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls sure look good. I really miss things that are made with flour and sugar. But, I've lost 23 pounds so far on the Atkins diet, so I just have to keep missing them. I really like the fabric that you found for the Doors of Ireland quilt from Quilter's Warehouse. It looks like it will be perfect for the walls of the restaurant.

I totally get the rationale for all the changes! There usually is a guy to blame when things go wrong! LOL

Yup, I exercised today too...my prerogative. I also made yet ANOTHER trip to the fabric store...seems the 2 yds of stiff interfacing didn't make it onto the (long) list, so it didn't get purchased. And today I learned just how bad my math is....when I tried to make a 22 inch zipper fit into a 17 inch space. What made me think that would work?

Funny about your pumpkin rolls - I just made apple rolls tonight, but the dough was waaaaay to sticky to work with. I rolled it out between wax paper, and it looked & felt fine then...but when I removed the top piece of paper, the half the dough came with it (the top half!). ??? what the heck? I just dumped all the apples into a pan, with a little brown sugar & butter, scraped some of the dough off the paper & slid it onto the apples and turned it all into a sort-of cobbler. No need to wait till morning - we ate half of it tonight. Was different, but still good.

Your wall fabric looks like a good match, can't wait to see the whole thing!

Okay, so plans changed. Still looks like you found plenty to do.
The rolls look delicious - I can almost smell them!
I like the fabric for the wall. Worth the wait. And, look, it gives you a chance to work on a UFO.
Have fun.

The changes in your plans all sound like rational decisions to me. Though I'm not sure I followed "the guy" thing that started the decision tree.

quiltzyx said...

Yep, it's all the guy's fault. Whichever guy, it's his fault.

The new choice for the stone wall is perfect! And don't forget that I will happily accept the folk art cat quilt, in any stage of its development, just in case you need to lighten your load.

Ha, my plan to work out is as squishy as yours. I didn't laugh when you said you'd work out tomorrow, I thighs surely you'd get over that feeling! Exercise is dangerous. It induces redness and sweating. The grey stone fabric is a great match for the wall. Btw, glad to hear Mike is much better too. Hope his gut bacteria are all sorted now.
