Three State Day

The exhilaration of yesterday's drive is enough to put anyone to sleep, so I'll be brief. We started out in Idaho, where the view was pretty much this:

Things started looking more promising when we crossed into Utah, although the view was pretty much the same.

We perked up when we saw that curve in the road waaaaaaaaaaaaay up there.

To be fair, we did pass by some pretty little towns. Places like this always cause me to get a song stuck in my head that my mom used to sing...The Little Brown Church in the Vale.

Oh, come, come, come, come
Come to the church in the wild wood
Oh, come to the church in the dale
No place is so dear to my childhood
As the little brown church in the vale.

(Please tell me I'm not the only one who knows the words to that song.) It did keep me awake momentarily recalling the words. I told you we were bored.

The puffy white clouds in the sky kept us awake, however. I'm saying I see The Incredible Hulk with his hands stretched over his head. You see it, don't you?

Whoa, Nellie! The drive got downright gripping when we passed into Wyoming.

Lots of wind power in Wyoming. And more clouds. I think it's a man's face with a handlebar moustache. Yeah, I'm going with the moustache.

We moved from "gripping" to thrilling when we passed through a tunnel. I mean, that thing is dug out of solid rock! It was a short-lived burst of energy, however.

And that was pretty much our day. The sunset was pretty.

Smitty wanted me to tell you that he found a new place to explore. This is the overhead cabinet...the one above our couch...the one I need to stand on my tiptoes to reach. Smitty doesn't need tiptoes. He has massive thighs that allow him to leap tall buildings in a single bound.

There are two soft blankets in there.

These long hauls on the interstate are not a lot of fun...just lots of straight road with very little scenery. A series of gas stations and rest stops. Today we hope to reach Rocky Mountain National Park, and then I should have a lot more to tell you.

It must be fun to travel through so many areas and a lot of the views are beautiful.

Nice pictures and commentary on everything. Love the cat pictures and story.

I keep my wastebasket under the sink. Went to throw something in the garbage and there was a kitten sitting in there. Had a Whiskas bag in there. Guess I need to rinse them out. Just give them the cheap stuff for wet food, feed them high quality dry stuff.

Have four fosters currently. They will probably be gone in a few weeks. Three black & white ones and one black one. One of our daughter's friends named the black on Stanley, I had already named on Stella so I decided to go with a "S" theme. So, besides Stanley (Stanny to me), Stella (Stellaluna to me), we have Sabrina and Sid. Stella, Sid and Sabrina all have different markings over their eyes so they are easy to tell apart. I have to say that they are so much fun! What a boring life it would be without pets.

I too would like a camper someday like you. I would always want to bring our cats along with us when we travel. I am hoping to go to Uganda, Africa in the next year (same place our daughter Monica went) and I am already worried about leaving the cats. My hubby would most likely either not go or not be gone as long as me but I still think the cats need more attention and picking up behind than he would do. Do know of a gal that I could hire to help with them.

Anyway, keep on sending the great pictures! Are you stopping at quilt shops along the way?

On those straight and boring roads, I'm always glad I have some handwork along to work on. The sunset was absolutely gorgeous.

You're not the only one who remembered the words to that song. Now I'm gonna have it bouncing around in my head all day - thanks! Great pics!

Great pics and I love your commentary. We have some straight bits on journeys but the certainly don't go on for as long as they do in the US. That's probably a good thing since we are a much smaller country! Trust Mr Smitty to find a nice cosy place to settle down in.

I think you need to plant a couple of trees alone the way. Love the red sky!

Smitty looks like he's found "his" place on this trip! I've never traveled up that way, but I guess I'm not missing too much. We basically just traveled around Colorado. There are so many beautiful places to see here.

Try Adelaide to Perth and then tell me about boring.and it will take you two to three days. (Two states, South Australia and Western Australia)

I see the Hulk! But the man I saw was blowing smoke out his nose! Long road trips can be boring. We have been known to take side trips. See a sign for a working water mill, side trip. We also listen to books on tape (well it use to be tape, then CD and now Ipod)

Yep, I see the Hulk too! But the other one, I only saw, well, clouds.
Leave it to Smitty to find the cupboard with the softest blankies!

Long straight roads like that put me to sleep but the scenery looks beautiful. Yes, I do know the words to that song.
