Stitching on the Go

Looking for the NewFO Linky Party?

This morning I sat and finished up the second stitchery for Block D of the Gardener's Journal quilt. This one is called "Pulling Weeds".

Cute, huh? That's probably what my backside looks like when I'm out pulling weeds, although right now, I can't kneel down, so never mind. Also, I don't know what that little mark is on her hat band. I didn't notice it until I posted this picture. So just pretend that's not there. (Let's see...there must be something else I can tell you not to do.)

Last week I finished up the other of the two stitcheries for Block D. This one is the "Vegetable Garden".

When we get back from our trip, I'll be putting this on my October to-do list to piece Block D together. Once that is done, this quilt will be half finished.

It seems a good time to be linking up to Slow Sunday Stitching:

And speaking of our trip, since I'm fresh out of hand-sewing, it seemed a good time to make up something new. I'll be taking this one along with me to work on while we're traveling. It's the third of the Quilting Snowladies. This one is called "Stitching Friends Forever".

Here's a picture of the pattern cover so that you can see how it will look when it's finished. I love all the colors in the quilt.

Remember when I did the first block of this quilt, there was a cat seated beside the snowlady. See him down there on the lower right?

Well, I decided that each block should have its own cat, and so I added one to the second block as well.

Do you see him?

And I added one to this block too! I'll just keep adding them wherever they fit.

All the satin stitching in the quilt means that these snowlady blocks take quite a bit of time; but just to be sure I won't run out, I also made up the next block for the Vintage Tin quilt. This one is the map of Route 66.

I used the Sticky Fabri-Solvy to transfer this design. I discovered that I could fit more of the design onto my 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of copy paper if I turned the design 90 degrees. I still had a few lines missing at the bottom, however, and so I drew those in.

So there they are...ready to go in two nice neat little bins.

Also, yesterday I machine quilted and then machine sewed the binding onto the Wonky Houses wallhanging.

I was planning to take this one along on the trip as well, but I imagine I'll get it finished before we go. It will still need four loop hangers at the top. The original pattern showed three hangers, but I think it will hang nicer if I use four of them. This ended up at 35 inches long by 14 inches high.

Also today, I'm hoping to get going on the borders for the White Trees quilt.

I don't have any appropriate backing for this quilt, and so I'll be looking for something while we're traveling. (What a great excuse to stop at every quilt shop along the road, don't you think?)

And that's about all I know for this morning. My sunshine cat has been keeping me company while I've been writing this post.

It's a nice warm spot for a morning nap.

As always, very impressive. And a reminder that I am SUCH a slacker, lol. :)

You do have a lot of projects in process and always do such fun patterns. I like making up stitcheries on the go, easy to take and do while riding in the car.

I love how you are adding the cats into your stitcheries! Great job doing the prep work and sounds like a wonderful excuse to visit every place you think might have some fabric in it!

I think Stitching Buddies is going to need two cats. Doesn't everyone need two cats, or four or ...

Looks like you're well-prepared for your trip. Isn't it funny how we spend more time preparing for our craft projects than packing our clothes and toiletries? ;-)

The Snowladies are great. Love the cat additions to each one. I'm also liking that Fabri-Solvy. Sure saves a lot of time and easier to see the design.

I'm sure you won't find the purrfect backing fabric until the last quilt store, of course.

PErfect excuse for stops at all the shops. Can't wait to see what else you find as well. ;D As always, I am so in love with your projects. The cats added in for each block are fabulous.

I love your stitcheries and adding a kitty for each snow lady is a brilliant idea. Enjoy the quilt shops on your trip. I just had to pop into a fabric shop in Bern last week but managed to control myself and not spend too much.

It looks like you're about ready to take off! All of the stitcheries look like they will be wonderful when they're finished.

I just love your stitchery blocks! And the little cats are just the perfect touch!
I wonder if the new stitchery is big enough to applique squares of fabric instead of the satin stitch on the quilt?!?
