Lizard Wizard

Good afternoon. Smitty here. I've been traveling around with my mom and dad, and let me tell you...traveling is boring. Four paws down.

My mom and dad were supposed to go to Zion today, but they decided to stay home. My mom said, "If we're going to Zion, then I'm gonna be sighin' ". Ha. My mom is such a comedian.

That was good for Gracie and me because they stayed in the trailer with us all day. And that meant that I went for a walk with my Dad this morning and for another walk with my Mom this afternoon! And I saw the most amazing thing! My dad says it's a lizard. It was like a mouse with no fur! I've never seen anything like that in Oregon...except maybe those slugs, and those things are gross. They get slime all over your fuzz, and let me tell you, that is disgusting. You can lick for hours and that stuff will not come off. Gack.

But this thing was fast!! And I chased it over to this tree, and I started to climb the tree, but then I LOST it. OMG!

I looked up here...

And I looked down here...

and I looked over there...

and I looked over here...

Phew. I was getting tired of looking. I even tried serenading it with a song I wrote.

Lizard, lizard, chicken gizzard.

But, no dice.

Not to worry. I decided to take a dust bath.

Now I just want to say right here that my mom told you yesterday that when I take a dust bath, it turns my white parts pink. But that is totally incorrect! What self-respecting boy cat would walk around with pink fuzz? Honestly. Sometimes my mom is so dense.

Just look at my nose. My nose is pink, but this dust is terra cotta. Repeat after me: "terra cotta".

Thank you. I'm glad we've settled that.

Now, I'm going to see if I can entice that lizard to come out again. I'll just sit right here. I think this might be his secret lair.

Hm. This is getting as boring as being inside the trailer.

I've heard there's larger game around here...in fact, I've seen some dinosaur tracks. I think I'll go in search of some of the bigger lizards.

That's it from me. Time to get back to work. Smitty, signing off. I hope you have a purrfectly lovely day.

What an adventure Smitty. Your Momma sure takes the best photos.

Good job Smitty! You look all macho with all that 'terra cotta' dust all over. That nasty lizard knows better than trying to mess with you!!

I always love to read about your wild adventures Smitty. That lizard sure was sneaky, getting away from you. He probably thought you were going to have him for dinner, and not as a guest. You are so right, Terra Cotta it definitely is. That matches one of my bathrooms.

Smitty, we are sorry you did not catch your lizard. We have lots of them here and Geckos, too! We bring geckos in from the garage and turn them loose. Dad always catches them and puts them back outside, though!

Oh Smitty, be happy you're someplace where it's not raining sideways with branches blowing down on your furry little head! Your favorite gophers will be waiting for you when you get back home!

Smitty- I had no idea you don't have lizards where you live. I could ship you a boat load of them!

Maya here, Hi Smitty, I love chasing lizards! They are all over the place here, mostly little ones and you're right they are super fast. Mom says I need to leave them alone, but she doesn't have to worry. Watch out for the big ones though, they are big, mean and also fast, especially when they're whipping their tails at you.

Sorry you didn't get your lizard Smitty. Though I wouldn't feel too bad about it, I seem to remember reading somewhere that they are a bit on the bitter side.

You are quite the reporter now, Smitty. :)
I fondly call your blog reports, "Getting down and gritty with Smitty!"
Love these!

Lucky you, Smitty. A walk and a lizard hunt. You look good in terra cotta.

Oh Smitty your posts are such fun to read. I agree the colour is definitely terra cotta and it does suit you. I'm very impressed that you are so happy to walk on your lead so mom doesn't get lost. Picasso wont even try so I have to leave him at home when I travel 'cos he gets upset when I go missing!

WOW!!! Smitty you really have it good. You get a vacation too. Nice to see you out and about with that harness, keeps you safe but able to explore outside. Terra cotta looks fabulous on you (pink would also). I just got back from Florida and they have tons of little lizards that run free all over the place, you would have a ball chasing them around. Enjoy seeing the world and have a safe trip back home.

I agree that terra cotta is the color that you get when you take a dirt bath. It's really great that you get to go on vacation too. We don't have a travel trailer any more so I stay home with our kitties while Ken goes on the trips by himself. Glad that you got to take 2 walks today and got to chase a lizard.

You're right Smitty, those lizards can be QUICK! Plus, that was his home territory, so he already knew all the best hidey holes. At least you had great weather for your mini-adventure!

One must admit that for such a young cat, he developed quite the color sense already. I wouldn't want to be calling his Teal anything so bourgeoisie as green now would I ?~!
