Kanab, Utah

Yesterday's drive from Escalante to Kanab was short, which was nice. It gave us some down time in the afternoon, and we also made a trip to the grocery store. I wish there was some way to travel without eating, but so far, my experiments at this endeavor have failed.

Several of you have mentioned Bryce Canyon, which is indeed a fantastic national park. Mike and I have each visited twice, and we have done a considerable amount of hiking there. For this trip, we decided to bypass Bryce in favor of seeing some of the things we have not seen in Southern Utah. Nevertheless, as we approached the turnoff to Bryce Canyon, we began seeing some of the characteristic hoodoos.

We passed through two tunnels/arches. (They were very short tunnels.)

Originally, we thought we were headed to Springdale, Utah, to be near Zion National Park. Then, we looked at the map and decided Kanab was a better place to stay. From here, we can launch excursions to Zion, the Grand Canyon, and several other national monuments in the area. Southern Utah simply has to be one of the more astonishingly beautiful places in all of North America, and there is more to see here than anyone could cover in a single visit, or even in three visits (this being our third visit). We will have to choose among the many things we have not seen here, and make another trip back (or two or three) at some point in the future to see the rest. For now, we have the next three days to see what we can, and then we will move onto Great Basin National Park as we make our way home.

Miss Gracie wanted me to tell you that she has been very boldly going where no Gracie Cat has gone before. She has spent the better part of the last two evenings outside on the Catio. The Catio has been claimed as Smitty's territory, but when he isn't out there, she has been very brave about venturing out. She still does not like being out on the leash, but moving out to the Catio is a big achievement for Little Miss Scaredy Cat.

And with that, I will leave you to your day. I hope it's a good one. We will be heading down to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon today.

Beautiful photos. Ah, Gracie - you are the most traveled feline I know and yet you are only just taking in the scenery!

I've been following you for a while now and O. M. G..... For the last days you are doing exactly the tour we are going to make in 267 days!!! We will start in Calgary and travel down through Glacier and Yellowstone, but from Moab we're going to see the same (hopefully) We don't drive with an RV but by towncar and Moab will be a big off-road part for us. The day you posted about the quiltshop in Moab, I just found it myself online. Just can't wait what to see next and compare pictures later on!
Drive save and thank you so much for sharing. Makes the waiting for our trip a little less boring.
Have fun! (Hope you'll visit Antelope Canyon too?)

Even though you had a short trip this morning, it looks very interesting! Good to see that Miss Gracie is venturing out a little more. It sounds like you are going to be quite busy for the next few days. Glad you are having a good time. Stay safe!

Those hoodoos look like castles, don't they? I just love that redness against the bright blue sky.

I am so very proud of Miss Gracie, hanging out in the catio of an evening! Lovely new portrait of her.

Enjoy the Grand Canyon!

That is beautiful and cool, love natural formations and rocks. Bill thinks I am nuts, I am always stopping and looking at rocks and cliffs and seeing shapes, lol. Glad Gracie is getting out more and enjoying the scenery herself.

You are an excellent photographer. Many of these would be suitable for landscape quilts. Thank you for sharing!

Glad to hear that Miss Gracie is branching out. It would be such a shame to be indoors with all the beautiful skies and such waiting for her outside.
