Heyburn, Idaho

We made it another 325 miles down the road yesterday and ended up in Heyburn, Idaho, which is just east of Twin Falls. This part of the country is flat, flat, flat. Occasionally, one passes through an agricultural area, but otherwise, it is arid grass land. We traveled along with trains much of the way.

We've seen more wind power being generated on this trip than ever before. This can only be a good thing, in our way of thinking.

We caught our first glimpse of the Snake River while still in Oregon.

Then, a few miles down the road, we crossed over into Idaho,

where we saw more of the same.

We ended up in a very nice RV park, Heyburn Riverside RV Park, where there is a really lovely Riverside Trail that takes you down to a beautiful part of the Snake River. When we arrived, there was a group baptism going on right here. There were at least 50 people crowded around, but I don't think all 50 were there to be baptized.

It was a beautiful spot for it. When you stood on the dock and looked southeast across the river, you saw this:

It was a very nice paved trail that led out to a park and a covered bridge.

There were lots of folks fishing for trout and bass.

We had a very nice conversation with this man, who seemed the consummate fisherman.

My knee has been pretty good on flat surfaces like this, and I brought my walking shoes (which are different from my hiking boots or my regular shoes). They have a nice rigid sole and lots of good padding inside. They seem to help quite a bit, and when we get back to the trailer, I've been icing it religiously. This morning, it doesn't feel half bad.

The blooming grass was pretty in the golden light of the setting sun.

And, of course, we never go anywhere without our shadow selves.

Looking back to the west, you can see where the highway crosses over the river.

All in all, it was a nice way to end a long day of driving.

Today, we will cross into Utah, and then into Wyoming, on our way to Cheyenne. We won't get all the way to Cheyenne tonight, but we're hoping to get well down the road so that tomorrow's drive won't be so far. We should be reaching Rocky Mountain National Park tomorrow.

More beautiful country. My Dad and one of his friends were always joking about going down the Snake and going fishing there. They were both avid Western book readers and the Snake is mentioned in a lot of those. Unfortunately they never made it!.

If you run into a Park Ranger in Rock Mountain, named Sharon Brubaker, Tell her Nancy said hello.

It all looks pretty to me, but I didn't drive a zillion miles with the same views, :) Tomorrow should see some beautiful more dramatic changes I hope.

Heyburn looks like a beautiful spot for your resting time. The Snake River is so gorgeous! I took a ton of shots of it in Twin Falls when I was there last. Even caught some base jumpers jumping from the bridge.
