More Rainbow Ladies

http://superscrappy.blogspot.com

Today I focused on making two blocks for the We Are the World Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilt I am making.  July's color was teal, and I didn't finish my block last month, so I needed to make both July's block and August's block.  Here is July's teal block:

Please tell me I picked the right color for "teal".  I'm a little hazy on its definition.  If not, they're just going to have to do, teal or not.  And here is August's red block:

And here are all my little ladies.

I'm really liking how this is looking.  Recall that the original pattern was for all red dresses.

I'm sort of glad I decided to do them in all different colors.  Remember the corners I cut off the saw tooth stars for the Hello Sun quilt?

I used some of them when I finished off the Hello Sun quilt by making pinwheel cornerstones.  There are still plenty of those left, and I'm thinking I might use them to make cornerstones for the sashing in this quilt.  I'll have to count them up to see if I have enough.  The idea for that just occurred to me as I was laying out all the blocks this afternoon.  I might need to cut them in half to make them half the size, but I think that might really set off the blocks in this quilt.

These little ladies take a long time to make, not because they are difficult, but because they have a lot of little pieces.  I spent the whole day making these two.  Tomorrow I'm going to focus on making two more blocks for the Yard Art quilt.

The last time I worked on this, I got the yellow background for the palm tree turned 90° on one of the blocks.  I'll have to remake that one because there is no way to fix it.  So, I need to make two palm trees and one flamingo.  These are not difficult, but cutting and stitching all the corners in the palm tree does take some time.

All of that to say that I don't know how far I'll get because I have to take my knee in to see the doctor again. It's been making me miserable since Friday.  I have mostly good days with my knee, and ordinarily when it flares up, it only hurts for a day.  It has been stiff and unbendable since Friday with pain and swelling, and I fear what the doctor will say about it.  I'm seeing my pain specialist, and sometimes she can work magic and make it stop hurting.  The last time I saw her, even she was talking about surgery, and she's pretty conservative in that way. Oy. Definitely not up for knee surgery, but something has to give.  This bout with it has me fast approaching my tolerance limit.

After that I need to go to the grocery store.  I got a reprieve from grocery shopping today because we ate dinner out last night.  Our weather turned kind of coolish last week, but now we're back to our summer warmth.  It's always fairly cool on our mountain, but I'm guessing it's hot enough in the valley.

How was your Monday?

Sorry that your knee is bothering you again. Two of our friends have recently had knee surgery. Both are happy with the outcome. I hope you don't need surgery. The ladies look great!

Your teals are wonderful! So are your reds :*) Love these little ladies, and it's going to make a really fun and interesting quilt!

So sorry your knee is giving you a fit! My hubby has the same problem. Hope they can fix you up tomorrow without scheduling any nasty cutting procedures :*O

Your ladies are wonderful - what the interpretation of teal is, was a big question with the group, but you did just fine.

They are definitely teal in my book! Love your little ladies, will be a really cute quilt.

Hope your knee improves without you having to resort to surgery.

I like the rainbow colors better, not that the red isn't great, I just like it being more colorful. I hope your knee improves!

Yep, they're teal, light teal but still teal, you know I've studied at the Crayola school for years. I spent Monday waiting for back pain to ease, this aging stuff really sucks.

Teal is a color that sits in a gray area I feel. I think you hit it pretty good!

Sorry to hear about your knee. My knees too aren't the best but they are okay. Sounds like you have some good medical advice. Who wants to rush into surgery but then sometimes its necessary...

Your sewing always amazes me! We were at our cabin in Wisc for the past week - weather was just okay. Mostly clear but definitely not overly warm. I have a queen quilt all cut out. Had the fabric for a year or so which for me isn't all that surprising. It's a simple Amy Butler free pattern - squares are brick-shaped and are supposed to be randomly sewn. I am not a random person and am thinking I might have to lay it out on my deck or driveway. Still have two foster kittens here so laying it out in the house just won't work.

Almost done with embroidering block 8 out of twenty for the (I think its called) Aunt Bea's Flower Basket quilt. Can't believe I would undertake such a large project - 20 squares altogether. Oh well, it gives me something to do in the car.

Take care of that knee!

Yup, it's teal. And the knee thing, I can truly relate only it's back and shoulder for me. All we can do now for our bodies is patch, patch, patch. My Monday was kind of fumbly..things broke, fell, got misplaced or didn't work. Sigh! Tuesday looks brighter-haircut scheduled.

There is a world of difference between difficult and tedious. :-)

I too like the many colors of dresses for the ladies. Both it and the yard art quilt are adorable. And cheers for using those cut off triangles.

Love your little ladies, and the yard art, too...your photo of the two kitties reminds me of what is happening here. I posted a while back about a stray that we had taken in, and we're waiting for the no-kill shelter to call and say that they have a space for her. Moses is definitely not a happy camper. Not only is the interloper a perky, energetic kitten that wants him to play, she also is showing signs of going into heat (they start so early!) and he is tired of telling her he can't help her out. LOL He is a growly, hissy, cranky-pants. Sure hope the shelter calls soon!

My Monday was spent catching up from a weekend away from home but the trip was fun. The knee thing is no fun, a good friend just had her second knee surgery and is happy with the outcome but I say don't do it unless you absolutely must.
The ladies are super cute and I love all the colorful dresses, so charming. Now I'm off to the store I guess we have to eat, right?

Your ladies are looking good. I do love all the colors you chose to use for their dresses. Teals can be tricky because there are green teals and blue teals. It's what you want it to be! Sorry your knees are in pain. That can really cramp one's style. Hope they find a solution that is not surgery, but many people have done it with success. My Monday was slow moving, but got started on a quilting project. Today it's yard work, so the quilting will have to wait.

Amish heritage? Do tell! I've always been a bit fascinated with the Amish. And that dolls quilt...Gorgeous! I love seeing it with all the pairs together, no sashing. Can't you just see it made up into one big quilt in rows and rows just like that? I am inspired. Please advise where you got the pattern. Busy day in Christchurch today, uni test, uni presentation, then work at 5.30pm and more midterm uni exams coming up. Got a lovely smooch from Mr Zorro at 6.05am today to carry me through the day and Miss Fluff suffered a cuddled before I left to catch the bus. She pretends not to be thrilled but I know, deep deep down, she loves the attention. Weather here is fine and promising a high of 17degrees C. Gotta love it if this is winter! Have a good rest of your day xx

Oh yes, those are teal enough! They are all looking so great together. :)

Oy, knees! Mine have been doing a bit better lately, just creaking & cracking once in a while. I suppose if you do end up having replacement surgery, you'll be able to still do your embroidery, right? Right!

Gotta love yard flamingos!! Someone posted a pic on FB (my cousin?) of a friends yard that someone FILLED with plastic flamingos! Heeheehee! Then today, another cousin posted a picture she took at the San Diego Zoo of a baby flamingo. It was soooo cute!

Love the little lady blocks and the idea for pinwheel cornerstones in the sashing is genius. I hope you have enough fabric.
