All Sewing, All the Time

It's going to be a good day.  There is no housework to be done, no place to go, and...because Mike and I are going to dinner and a movie tonight...no cooking.  Only one thing left to do:  Sew like my life depends on it, because clearly, it does.

The Hello Sun/You are my Sunshine quilt is about 2/3 finished.

The suns are quilted into all of the white squares and diamonds...

except for the bottom two rows.  Those are next.  For the small white corner squares, I did quarter suns.

This is going well enough that I'm starting to wish I'd used a different color of thread.  Maybe when I quilt my next quilt, I'll have enough confidence to try a bold color.

The borders still need to be quilted.  I'm going to stitch in the ditch on both edges of the yellow inner border. (Did you know that a narrow border that works as a sort of divider on your quilt is called a "stop border"? Thanks to Patchwork Posse for teaching me something new!)  Then, I'm going to do a large stipple in the outer border.  For the pinwheels, I like this design that Marcia Wachuta did on the Day in the Life of Mr. Bear quilt.  When it comes to quilting, the design has to be easy enough for no-artistic-talent me to draw. This looks like something I can do.

So...Onward!  That's my quilting cry for the day.  It's probably overly optimistic to think I can get the quilting finished today, but I'm going to try.

In other news, I was hijacked by a promotion that Connecting Threads and McCall's had going on last week. I could get a charm pack if I spent $25 (I think) on the Connecting Threads website.  Since I was in the market for some neutrals anyway, I figured, why not?  (And honestly, who can resist a freebie?  Huh? Am I right about that?)  Anyway...I got these shades of gray from white to black:

That didn't get me up to the $25 threshold, however, and so I got this "Celebrations" collection.  Pretty colors, huh?

If you've been reading my blog for a while, then you know I love thread almost as much as I love fabric. These colors look good enough to eat.

Also this morning, I finished up the first motorcycle on the Vintage Tin stitchery and just barely started on the lettering.  This one is moving right along.

And, finally, I harvested the first two ripe tomatoes out of the greenhouse the other night.  Sadly, that Siamese Twin tomato was mostly rotten.  (Is it politically correct to say that?)  I've noticed when you get these two-tomatoes-in-one tomatoes, they generally are not good.  One side usually rots, and the rot spreads throughout the inside of the tomato, even if it looks okay on the outside.  Still the other one was fine.

Yesterday I noticed six more are turning red.  Get ready.  They are coming.  Yes, they are coming.  (Cue scary "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" music.)

So that's about all that's going on at this end.  I'm going to water my flower pots, and then it's into the sewing room for me.  I won't come out until the quilt is finished...or it's time to go to the movie, whichever comes first.  The movie?  The Lone Ranger.  Johnny Depp.  Sigh.

Good luck on the quilting..finishing, that is. The produce hasn't quite taken off in the garden, yet. Lots of green tomatoes and the beans are just starting to form. Everything seems to be late this year. The Lone Ranger is on my list to see..I was a Lone Ranger fan back in the day. Have fun tonight.

Your quilt looks fantastic!!! I haven't started that one yet, I'm still in the looking stage for fabrics. Love that you used primary colors, very striking. Your tomatoes look yummy. I just harvested 5 cherry tomatoes off my plant on Monday, they go into salad tonight. We saw The Lone Ranger, great movie, funny and insightful. You won't believe that it was 2 1/2 hours long when you get out.....time flew in that movie. Have a wonderful dinner and a movie with your other half.

Your quilting is fabulous! You are definitely super duper enough to use a bold color, although I love the white on white myself. :)

Great quilting of your sunshine quilt. It's going to be beautiful when finished. The quilting you did in the pinwheels looks like hearts. Do you use a stitch regulator when FMQing? I love the colors of your Celebrations thread. Did someone say "Freebie"? : )
