A Day of Many Miles 2.0

Today I drove again to the other side of the world of Portlandia to pick up my camera, finished with its spa treatment.  I am soooooo happy to have it back.  I have other cameras I can use, but none I love as much as my little Nikon point and shoot.

Before I left this morning, I spent some time finishing up the last of the four wonky houses for the little Wonky Houses sew-along from Jenny of Elefantz.  And these are the first pictures I've taken since the return of my camera.

Looking pretty good, huh?  I'm not talking about the embroidery.  It's fine too, but remember the spots I was getting on my images?  Here's how it looked before I took it in for repair.

And now?  All gone!

And my embroidery pieces are finished too.  All in all, a good day.  This piece still has one more embroidered piece to go with it, but I didn't want to do that until I'd sewn it into a top.  Here's how the whole thing looks:

See the green stripe at the bottom?  It has kisses and hearts and the words "Home Sweet Home" embroidered on it.  Since that strip is too narrow to embroider on its own, I decided to wait until I had it all sewed together.  Also, the house blocks are supposed to be outlined around the edges.  I'll do that when it's all sewn together too.  So this one has a little ways to go, but it's getting there.

Next, I'm going to start on the next embroidered pieces for the Gardener's Journal quilt.  In the process, I'm going to try out the new product I was introduced to last month: Sticky Fabri-Solvy.  It's used to transfer embroidery designs to fabric.  I've heard good things about it, but I've never used it before.  I'm hoping it will be easy to figure out.  (Note to self:  search for a YouTube video.)

I'll take a lot of pictures as I do it so you can see how well it works as I'm learning to use it.

That will be a few days from now.  I've been very busy getting ready for my friend Lisa's visit, which I am terrifically excited about.  Lisa and I have been texting back and forth about what she should bring, etc., and we are both looking forward to a girls' weekend.  Today I bought a bunch of food because nobody goes away from a visit at the Three Cats Ranch without gaining ten pounds.  Including the cats.  Even though they are on the smallish side in comparison.

Tomorrow I have a bit more housework to do, and I need to do a little work in the greenhouse.  Hopefully, I'll squeeze in some sewing time in the afternoon.

Summer is here to stay in Oregon, I believe.  How was your day?

I am glad your were able to get your camera cleaned and the photos look wonderful and really show off the colors and stitching. I have heard others using sulky, so will be fun to see how you like it. I got one that dissolves, but doesn't stick so it moves, not something I want to happen when I stitch.

For your Wonky Houses, did you use the colors that Jenny suggested? I'm in the process of making them also for a friend who just bought their first house and it's a housewarming present. It won't be done by Saturday but shortly there after. I'm using sky blue light as my background fabric, I personally wish I had used the yellow you did. Oh well, thanks for sharing your blocks, gives me something to look at also.

Glad your camera came home all healed. Have fun with your sister chick. Poor Mike. Or, maybe not.

Looking forward to seeing what you think of the Sulky product for your embroidery. I heard good and not-so-good reports, but I think the not-so-good's were because they did not use the product properly.

I did get 4 machine embroidery blocks done, but may have to two out two of them. I have loops on the back side!

I have downloaded the houses too, but I have too many other projects going right now, so I am resisting the urge to start them... LOL Sounds like you will have fun times with your friend!
