Thursday Sewing

It was an easy-going Thursday around here.  This morning, I spent some time working on my Quilting Snowlady, and she is very close to being finished.  I'll show her off when I take the last stitches.

Then, Smitty and I went out and fed the birds and did some watering.  Ever since our encounter with the squirrel in the bird seed bin, Smitty has taken his job as Mighty Squirrel Hunter very seriously.  He sniffs and checks and noses all around the bird seed bins now to make sure no squirrels are lurking about.  And he is At. The. Ready. if need be.

Smitty takes all of his outdoor duties very seriously.  One can tell by the sheer number of hours he is outside when the weather is good.  He comes in briefly for kitty treats, but he doesn't stay long if said kitty treats are not forthcoming.  When he does get treats, he eats them, and then heads back out.  He pretty much stays up next to the house these days.  There are lots of places where he can hide and still see what's going on.  When he does stray farther away, he stays next to the trees so that he can make a quick exit if he needs to.  I would say I'm worrying about him less when he's out for long periods, but I'm afraid that would jinx things.  Just pretend I didn't mention anything about that.

And all of that to say that when he comes in for his dinner in the evening, he flops over onto the floor as if to say, "Isn't it time to come in yet?"  And so we take pity on him and give him his dinner.  He eats his dinner, cleans the dust off his paws, and then crashes on his cat pole for several hours before we see him again.  He is pooped at the end of his day.

Once we had our chores done, I started my doll quilt for the June doll quilt swap.

 Doll Quilters

The theme this month is "Fantasy" to honor Midsummer's Eve on June 21st.  Member Deirdre suggested that theme.  My partner and I decided to do something different, but my quilt will very loosely fit in with the theme.  I can't show it to you until she has it, but here's a little teaser for you...just so you know I'm not fibbing about starting on it.

The whole top is finished now, but I'll need to do some top-stitching and a little bit of embroidery.  I'm happy with how it's looking so far.  You will just have to use your imagination.

So that's it from the Three Cats Ranch for today.  Tomorrow I'm walking with my friend Sue in the morning. My knees have been giving me all kinds of grief, but I think I'm still up for a walk with Sue.  After that, I'll have a little bit of housework to do, and then I hope to get a little farther on my doll quilt.  Monday, I want to start quilting the Love Me, Love My Cat quilt, and so I'm hoping to get the doll quilt finished by then.

How did your Thursday go?

Ah Smitty - good for you. Bella is the cheif hunter of chipmunks and squirrels here - Moe loves to tease the birds! My doll quilt is done and heading to the post in the morning.

Kirby and Angel have been enjoying an hour outside in the late afternoon. Today, Kirby spotted a squirrel running along the top of the neighbors fence. He made a run for out gate but stopped when I called him back! I do not trust them out alone.

Picasso and Scamp patrol our small garden area to ensure it is safe from marauding squirrels or pigeons. Picasso likes to take up residence on the roof so he has a good view.

Great work on your doll quilt and I hope you and Sue had a lovely walk and the knees held up OK.

Love reading about the cats. Can you imagine if I wrote about mine? I'd be on the computer all day. My own four cats, two 7-week-old fosters and two 11-week old fosters - I could really use my imagination on them!

How was my Thursday? Baking. Baking. Baking. A cousin who I am close to asked me to make cupcakes for her daughter's grad party. Besides having to drive to kingdom come for the cute cupcake liners (should have ordered them on Amazon had I thought of it ahead of time). I sort of thought one batch of each type wasn't enough so I doubled each recipe. Found the recipes on Pinterest. They all look pretty impressive and I can do a little bit of cake decorating so I know mine should look pretty close the pictures. Andes mint, Oreo, Snickers and Twinkie cupcakes. Hopefully that's a good mix for people.

Glad when it's done. Have all my frozen cupcakes thawing so I can frost them. Don't dare leave the kitchen for fear my little furry friends will be into them. I have had to get the spray bottles a few times already!!

Have a good weekend! Hopefully the sun will finally come out today here.

I spent two 20-minute sessions working on my doll quilt and today it felt like too much. I've been visiting the chiropractor to fix my upper back problems this time and he suggested to not sew for a bit but, I can't help it. My doll quilt keeps calling me.

Can't wait to see the doll quilt! Ahh that Smitty is a busy boy! Glad to hear he has good hidey spots near the house and that he doesn't go far.

Smitty is so good about being serious on the job, isn't he? Only right that he should be fed immediately when he's in again. ;^)
Looking forward to seeing the WHOLE DQ!

I had a busy Thursday. Up early to work on my Secret Pal gift for guild (which was Thursday night), then to my friend Kim's by 8:30 to take her to the oral surgeon & then back home. Next to the shop to help MaryAnn with some computer-y stuff & lunch. Back to my house to finish up the SP gift, then off to pick up a tray of croissant sammies for guild & to guild. Meeting ran late, so didn't get home until 10pm. Whew!

He has a hard job that Smitty, keeping everything and every critter in order at the ranch. No wonder he is tuckered out at the end of the day.

Such a conscientious kitty that Smitty.

Looking forward to seeing your doll quilt. Looks intriguing.
