This and That

The day wasn't as productive as I'd hoped it would be, although I did sell my old sewing machine on eBay this afternoon.  Now to pack it up because it has to ship to California.  In fact, it's going to Escondido, which is just a whoop and a holler from where Mike and I met, graduated high school, and got married.  It'll be good to get all of that out of the sewing room, and there is a lot that goes with it.  

I went to do my Curves workout this morning, and then to the grocery store to pick up a few things to get us through the week.  Then I got potting soil for my lettuce and some peanuts for the birds.  I came home intending to do some yard work, but the weather started looking threatening, and I really, really, really wanted to sew.  I haven't had time to sew for two days, and I was Jonesing bad for it.  And when I got home, there was fabric at my doorstep.  This is the fabric I got for the back of the Line Dancing quilt.

And this is what I got for its binding.

And as long as I was shopping, I got a few other things too.  Everything was on sale, so I didn't spend too much.  I think I got one yard cuts of each of these next ones.

I thought I might use this next one in my Doors of Ireland blocks.

There was just something about this next one that spoke to me.  What could it possibly be?  Hm.

So I ended up doing most of the remaining top-stitching on the Line Dancing quilt.  My new sewing machine and I are getting along like old friends now.  I've figured out some of the problems I was having.  Just as I have my quirks, I think every sewing machine I've ever stitched with has had its quirks too.  When I got it, I was bemoaning the fact that my bobbin storage system would no longer work since my new machine takes jumbo sized bobbins.  These conventional Bobbin Buddy things won't work with them.

But today, I figured out that I can put the bobbin under the spool.  Cool!  The hole on the old ones wouldn't fit over the spindle, but the new ones do.  Now I don't have a single thing to complain about.  Bummer.  

And here's my poor little cat after a hard day at play.  There isn't much left but a gray puddle.  

Oh yes, and while I was at the grocery store today, I was looking for "Blue" things for the Photo A Day Challenge prompt tomorrow.  It's surprising how many things at the grocery store are blue.  For instance:

But I didn't use any of those.  You'll have to wait until tomorrow to see my actual "Blue" shot.
