Macro Monday: First Bloom

It's been a while since I've posted any images to Macro Monday.  That's partly because there isn't much to photograph during the winter unless I leave home to go hunting for it.  This afternoon when we returned home from our exciting outing to find an inexpensive vacuum cleaner for the downstairs, Smitty and I went outside to enjoy the little bit of sunshine we were getting.  In the process, I found the first flower of spring, although I guess it's technically still winter.  Maybe it would be more accurate to call it the last flower of winter.  These are little teeny tiny iris that came in a multi-pack of tulip bulbs I planted several years ago.  A sweet little surprise from the flower bulb fairies.  They are only about three inches tall and about three inches across from tip to tip.

We call those Dutch Iris. THey are my favorite. Here they get about a foot tall. Mine are so old they need to be dug up and reset! They have not bloomed well for several years.

I sure needed to see your first blooms this morning as we are getting another winter blast of 6-10" over the next two days. Yuk! Tell me those feathers are from Smitty's toy. You're kidding about the real bird, aren't you?

Love those little Iris. The ones in our garden are Iris reticulatum and grow about 6 inches tall. We get the Snowdrops in bloom first and the Iris follow quite quickly afterwards.

Oh! I love those irises! At one of our houses, I planted some in the front bed. They make my heart glad.

It may be small, but it is lovely. I don't think I have any iris up yet.

Gorgeous! Brilliant colour. Iris is my favourite flower and I had my bridesmaids wear Iris coloured dresses when I married 12 years ago.
